Dan and Carmen are hip, healthy and wealthy. They have their own companies, plenty of money and friends and are the proud parents of one year-old Luna...They live the cool life in...
more...Amsterdam, until beautiful and optimistic Carmen is diagnosed with breast cancer. With that their world transforms into a roller-coaster ride of doctors and hospitals. As his way of coping, the hedonistic Dan faithfully accompanies Carmen to her chemo and radiotherapy treatments, but spends his nocturnal hours crazily immersed in the nightlife and women of Amsterdam and Miami. "Love Life" is the account of a relationship and a terminal illness, devoid of fake sentiment and told with humour and deep humanity. And it is very much an ode to love. 'A wonderful novel about courage, helplessness and real love' - "Cosmopolitan Germany".

The cover of this book doesn't really give anythig away as to what lies in store for the reader and it wouln't really jump out at you in the book store. But do not be foole, it's a fantastic novel.

Here we meet Dan and Carmen a successful couple living in Amsterdam and, apart from Dan's indicretions, they are quite a happy little family with their young daughter Luna. That all changes when they find out Carmen has breast cancer.

The novel is written from Dan's perspective and eventhough he is a total philanderer you can't help but like they guy although you will often feel torn between him and how Carmen is feeling.
If your thinking this novel will be depressing it's actually quite he opposite it's got some real funny moments and I love the way Ray kluun has included quotations from films and songs.

The chapters are really short and I didn't really understand why at first but it later becomes apparent that you nay need to put it down quite often to wipe away the tears.

Tha characters are fantastically written Carman is amazing, Dan is a lovable rougue and Dan's friends and colleagues are all different but likable at the same time. The relationships are real, rather than chick lit nonscence.

Ray Kluun has wriiten this novel as fiction (so don't know why it's listed in non fiction) but we know that it is based on his experience of when his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer, although I wouldn't like to gues how much is fact and how much is fiction.

Everbody should read this. it's an absolute gem. Will warm your heart then break it at the same time.
