Before I start I would like to say that these people will ignore cancellation requests and take your money unlawfully.

What They Do
=========

Lovefilm.com are one of a growing number of internet DVD rental sites. For a monthly subscription they will send you DVD's through the post. You then watch them, send them back and they will send you another one out.

They know what to send you because you need to create a list of the DVD's you want to see.

The Cost
======

The only differences in the tariffs is in the number of DVD's you are allowed to have at home at the same time, these are :

One DVD at home simultaneously £9.99
Two DVD's at home simultaneously £12.99
Three DVD's at home simultaneously £14.99

Obviously the best thing to do is to watch them as quickly as you can when they arrive and post them back to get the best value. This system used seems common, as Screenselect also use it.

The Scam (and saga)
==============

I signed up for a months free trial to lovefilm.com. I selected the films I wanted to see. A couple of days later I received some off my selection through my letterbox, great...

After a couple of weeks, I decided to cancel my subscription. I emailed them to cancel and thought that it had gone through successfully. I returned the DVD's. That was the end of that I thought.

Then a week later, out of the blue, more DVD's arrived. This cannot be right. Perhaps they had sent them before I cancelled? Seems unlikely. Hey Ho. I wasn't too concerned as the card I had signed up with had been cancelled as I now have a new account with a different bank.

I then received an email saying that they could not take payment. I emailed back explaining that I had cancelled and they had sent the discs in error. I went on their website check on the cancellation status. The account status said suspended.

I then received a demand letter through the post. I rang them and they said that my account hadn't been cancelled, and the only way I would now be able to do it, was to pay the arrears. As I didn't want to give them my new card details they said that the only other way to pay would be to send a cheque. A few days later I received a final demand letter threatening me with a debt collector. I was not amused. In the end I sent a cheque for two months of subscription, just to save the hassle of it.

In between posting the cheque and now I have been contacted by debt collectors, I await to see what happens next. Apparently I am now liable for the legal costs too.

Having a scan of other reviews here I see I am not alone. My advice is to stay well clear of this unprofessional company.

You would think that if they couldn't take a payment then they would just cancel your account anyway. I won't be using them again in a hurry.

!! UPDATE 01/07/06 !!

I have just had an email from Lovefilm, guess what, they've just sent me some more DVD's despite all the above. I am going to Trading Standards and the Advertising Standards Agency, and most probably Watchdog as this just goes on and on.

Lovefilm are also used by other DVD rental companies, including Sainsbury's, Odeon, Screenselect and others. Avoid these also.

We've been thinking of trying the free offers to see which company offers the best service, think we will avoid this and its other guises, thanks

Good review - it caught my eye because I have recently written a review titled "I love LoveFilm.com".....perhaps I may need to revise it if and when I decide to cancel!! :) x
