- LOVE FILM? - I DO! -
LoveFilm is one of Europes largest online DVD rental businesses. It is now taking over AMAZON UK and German DVD rental business, giving it a European customer base of around 900,000 customers. LoveFilm has consistently won the award for UK's 'BEST' DVD rental service for 2005/06/07. Impressive stuff indeed! www.lovefilm.com -
LOVEFILM.com is a DVD rental film company. I joined Love film through a link supplied in the e-casher website, for which I earned £6.00 cashback. LOVEFILM provides an incentive in the form of all kinds of special introductory offers, and depending on who you sign up through, you will earn some cash back also. I got two weeks free when I first joined, and I provided my bank details for the monthly Direct Debit to taken from. I joined via the Lovefilm website which was a simple process, and once signed up I was given immediate access to view the vast bank of 65,000 films that they provide for rental. Navigation is smooth and the colourful sight is very impressive. On the site at the moment they are offering a 14 day FREE Trial on 3 of their unlimited packages. They offer formats Blue Ray and HD-DVD also.
LOVEFILM offer five different levels of membership.
-THE FIVE LOVEFILM PACKAGES -
1# *Unlimited Rental: £9.99 per month* For this you are able to order one DVD at a time. As soon as you post one back to LOVEFILM your next one sent to you. I chose this option because if I order more than one DVD they will just sit there forever waiting for me to watch them. So by ordering one at a time I will watch the DVD pretty quickly, wanting to get the next one speedily on its way to me.
2# *Unlimited Rental £12.99 per month*. This option offers you up to two DVD'S at a time, and again you can hire as many as you wish during the month, as long as you have sent the two back first.
3#*Unlimited Rental £15.99 per month. This level lets you take out up to three DVD's at a time. This level would be ideal for someone who likes to watch a fair few DVD's quite frequently.
4# £3.99 per month. For this you are allowed to hire one DVD at a time, but no more than two per month. This option really is for the very light user.
5# £7.99 per month, and you are able to take out up to two DVD's at a time, but no more than four per month.
In comparing this option to the one that I have chosen at £9.99 unlimited, it would be better I feel to pay the extra £2.00 and have unlimited access to the selection on offer.
So those are your five options. Once you have received the films, you can keep them as long as you like, within your month, so it really is up to you how quickly your viewing time is used. I like this, as I hate to feel pressured to get DVD's back by a certain day, and I was always paying excess fees when I returned late rentals to Blockbuster. I gave up in the end as I am really forgetful and also will only watch a film when I am in the mood. So LOVEFILM is a great option for me and others like me. When you are sent your LOVEFILMS they will arrive in a small red and white envelope with LOVEFILM written across the bottom of the envelope. This envelope also serves as the return packaging that you will put the watched DVD's in for returning, and upon opening you tear the perforated strip and it neatly forms a new envelope with a pre-paid first class delivery stamp upon. The films are also sent to you first class delivery, so turnover is nice and fast.
-The LOVEFILM WEBSITE -
I love the website! They have made it colourful and great fun. Where to start? Well if you want to join straight from the Website, written in red lettering you have an option to 'Start Free Trial' just click on, and Lovefilm will do the rest. This is for 14 days only. You will be asked for your bank details at this point, and this is to verify your identity and set up your new trial account, but if at any point within the trial period you wish to cancel for any reason, there will be no problem. You have your account section called: 'My Rental Lists' and from here you can store all your chosen titles. This has recently been sub-sectioned to include a partner or another person. So you will have 'Your List' and a separate box for 'The Other'. This gives you a chance to get really organised as to how many films you personally have chosen. When you choose your titles they will automatically go into your account list, ready for pending delivery, and LoveFilm recommend you keep around 20 in your list and you have an option to set the 'Priority' upon them. This is for your preferences for which ones you want to be delivered first, and you have the settings: 'Low', 'Med', and 'High' priority. Once set, this can be altered as many times as you want. So if you really want film 'X' next, just tick the box next it as 'High' priority, ensuring that this will be the next DVD to arrive. When you choose a film, you are able to watch a trailer to see if you like the look of it, this is really useful in giving you a feel for the film. You are also able to read short reviews from people who have already seen the film, which can give a good indication on whether they consider it to be good or bad. The film will also have stars beside it, and you also can give your star rating beside a film.
Going by your chosen titles so far, Lovefilm will recommend others to you on a similar theme. This is actually very good, and many they have suggested I have gone on to choose for viewing. There are two of us in this with household with quite different tastes, so whilst my Husband loves psychological/Slasher Horror, I am more interested in something a little more cutting edge, cult classic, or foreign cinema. So with the vast array of films on offer, there will always be something for us to choose between. Once LoveFilm have received your last film back, they then send an email to tell you the next one which one is on its way. I like this service and it makes the experience all the more personal. The choice of films is incredible and as I said earlier there are over 65,000 titles to choose from and normal site search for films is made by actor/title/director from the search bar at the top of the page. -
- BROWSING- -Adult content Films. Over 18's. - You have an option to have a filter put on this, so if any child has access to your account a pin number would protect the child from entering. It comprises of 4 numbers and can be changed at any time. Similarly if you forget the password you can request a new one to your email address. - HOTLIST - You have a box with options to browse DVD's. Under this section you have the 'Best selling DVD's.- Coming soon DVD's.- I have actually ordered from this category and the title appears in my list as: Reserved. It would then go into my main list when it is released to LoveFilm. - Most popular DVD'S.- New Releases - Trailers - and Recommendations -
-TOP CHARTS- UK Top 50 weekly chart. This comprises of the top most rented films on the site weekly. At present there is American Gangster. 30 Days of night. Run fat boy run. Stardust etc... This is really quite useful to see and gives me an indication of popularity of film, and whether or not I should give a particular film a viewing.- Top 20 TV Weekly Chart - Which gives a rundown on most popular DVD's of the TV series. At the moment in the No 1 Spot is Gavin and Stacey series 1. I might be a bit out of touch, but I actually haven't heard of this, so it might be worth watching. No 2 is Family Guy presents Blue Harvest, and NO 3 Sopranos series 1. etc... The all time 250. American Film Institute's top 100, and British Film Institutes top 100 Films. What I like is having everything I could possibly want to search all sectioned off nicely. It is all so easy to find and it makes for very interesting and accurate searching.
-GENRES- There is everything you could possibly want here from cartoon, to adult entertainment. As I said earlier any adult content can be protected by use of a pin number. The genres are: Action/Adventure- Animated- Children- Comedy- Documentary- Drama- Family- Gay/Lesbian- General interest- Horror- Indian Cinema Music/Musical- Romance- Sci-Fi/Fantasy- Sport- Television- Thriller- World Cinema- Adult- Audio Description.-
You also have 'Free Downloads'. Though at present I am not too impressed with some of the titles that they are offering. But it's free so I might just watch one or two of them for review purposes. LoveFilm also offer 'Shorts' ranging from 80p upwards to download, or a separate price to buy. It also lists all film on the Cinemas currently with an option to rent as soon as LoveFilm acquires them, which would be put into your account reserve list. There is 'A Coming Soon' selection and most popular. There is so much to this site so many options and I have just listed some of them to give an example. You can also BUY DVD's from LoveFilm at a reduced price, and with free postage from the LoveFilm Shop which is on the LoveFilm site. There is a good selection of titles to choose from also.
-GAMES- LoveFilm also have a section for games to rent and they have some pretty good ones here. They have games for consules and handheld., with a drop-down box for each platform - PS.PS2-PS3- DS- XBOX 360-Gamecube- Wii- With games such as: Tom Clancys Ghost Recon, Assassins Creed- Super Mario Galaxy- God of War 2- Grand theft Auto IV, for XBOX and PS3- Resident Evil4- Plus many more.
From the type of films that I select, LoveFilm recommends to me similar films that I might like, and my latest alert from them was for Blue Velvet and Capote, which just happen to be two of my favourite films, so I think they have the recommendations thing spot on. You are also able to see other members collections of DVD's which is quite interesting, and I have chosen a few new films this way if their taste has been similar to mine. Normally if I browse in a DVD shop I find the experience really daunting, with so many titles to choose from I find the whole thing really confusing, it just baffles my eye, and I usually come out of the shop with something I really didn't want. Ordering from the Internet is ideal for me, as I need to take my time, and LoveFilm is perfect for that as I can browse to my heart's content. I can watch a trailer of any film to see if it is the sort of thing that I would like. I get films recommended to me tailored to my taste. The films are delivered to my door, no hassle, and when I am done with them I just pop them in the post box, no stamp needed.
Online DVD rentals really are a brilliant idea and LoveFilm works really well for me, the films are rushed to me quickly, the communication is very good and the convenience of the return envelope is ideal. The titles are great and extremely varied and this way I get to see so many more films than I normally would. The medium of film is a great escape, a chance to relax, and block the world out. LoveFilm is a great company. I love their well laid out site. The quality of the actual DVD's is fine and I have had no problems at all in the six months that I have been renting from them. They also have gifts for sale in the form of DVD's boxed in an attractive case and whatever the film bought, LoveFilm will throw in a free movie book. There is a lot going on within the Love Film website and I have tried to inform about most of it. It really is worth joining if you are looking for something like this and I Highly Recommended it 100%. - www.lovefilm.com -
