Full review
This last week I have suffered with a very nasty (viral infection) stomach bug, which I don’t know how I got nor did anybody else that I had been in contact with get. I was unable to keep any food or liquid down at all until my mum (and doctor) suggested that I drink sips of LUCOZADE, as it has sugar in it to retain my levels so I didn’t become dehydrated.

My darling boyfriend brought me a 1-litre bottle of Lucozade Original for £1.75 at my local corner shop.
I am not one for drinking Lucozade original (don’t mind the orange sports one to much). But sure enough I drank this and slowly began to feel much better, I could keep it down (even though I didn’t eat for 3 days).

~~ So what is it? ~~

Lucozade is a sparkling glucose drink. It says that it is made with glucose syrup and is “the body’s preferred source of fast effective energy”

~~ Ingredients ~~

Carbonated water, Glucose syrup (26% w/v), Citric acid, lactic acid, Flavourings (including caffeine), preservatives (sodium benzoate, sodium metabisulphate), antioxidant (ascorbic acid), colour (sunset yellow), vitamins (niacin, pantothenic acid, B6, B2, B12)

~~ Nutritional Info ~~

Energy 308kj (73kcal) per 100ml

It says that each 380ml serving provides the body with 17% of the recommended daily allowance of the vitamins in the ingredients.

~~ Important Info ~~

Lucozade is not recommended for children under the age of 2.

Lucozade is not appropriate for replacing the fluid lost during diarrhoea (over the counter electrolyte powders are proven the best for this) although it does help because of the glucose in it and makes you feel better because you are getting fluids.

Lucozade may stain if spilt – a damp cloth should lift the stain (or use mr muscle – see other opinion for this)

~~ Taste ~~

How to describe the taste………

Well it tastes like nothing really, I think that the original lucozade tastes like slightly flavoured water but is one of those tastes that you can’t put your finger on and is a little sweet.

~~ Smell ~~

Lucozade is almost recognisable by it’s sweet smell that again is indescribable.

~~ Colour ~~

Lucozade original is a dark orange in colour and is fizzy.

~~ Packaging ~~

All the bottles have the same design on them no matter what the size. The original bottle has a red lid and a red label with lucozade in big yellow letters written down the side. It also has original energy written underneath the lucozade label and sparkling glucose drink written above the lucozade label. About ¼ from the bottom the packaging changes to show lots of orange bubbles. The picture is the same all the way round.

~~ Who makes it and contact details ~~

SmithKline Beecham makes Lucozade and are contactable by:
SmithKline Beecham Consumer Healthcare, Brentford, TW8 9BD, United Kingdom and Corrig Avenue, Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin Ireland.

Lucozade also have a web site address that I haven’t checked out as yet on www.lucozade.com

~~ Overall ~~

Lucozade is not my preferred choice of drink, but is drinkable. It does seem to have the benefit of boosting my sugar levels as I always feel better after drinking it (especially on an upset stomach).
