Lucozade Sport is a still isotonic drink which comes in four flavours being Orange, Mixed Berry, Lemon and Grapefruit. For the purpose of my review the flavour i tested was Orange. The makers of Lucozade Sport are Glaxo Smithkline with the claim being that the drink aids energy loss and dehydration to help you get an edge in your sport. The boost is meant to come from the carbohydrate, fluid and electrolytes provided to replace what you are using during exercise.
PACKAGING
The 500ml bottle is a simple design being a clear plastic bottle with a label which difers slightly depending on flavour. It is designed to be easy to hold during exercise which works for me. It has a sports cap to make it easier to drink on the move.
TASTE
The orange lucozade sport is a very strong flavour and is extremely sweet. I find this refreshing but realise it will be too sweet for some people's taste. It is also slightly syrupy which is due to the carbohydrate blend (Glucose Syrup). Overall i like the taste.
MY TEST
I had the perfect opportunity to test Lucozade Sport out on September 4th 2005. Not only was the Great Scottish Run my first half marathon but it just happened to be the hottest September day on record in Scotland. 13.1 miles in +26 degrees celsius was the best possible chance to put this drink on trial. I took a sip of the Lucozade Sport every mile or so to try and keep my energy levels up. This was fine until about 7 miles in when i starte to feel totally drained. For the last 6 miles i struggled on not finding the extra energy the drink promised. The drink along with water from the water stations did keep me hydrated and im glad i had it, especially after seeing at least six runners collapsed at the side of the road but as for extra energy it wasn't much better than plain water.
COST
I bought my Lucozade Sport in Tesco's and the cost was 79p for a single 500ml bottle. I have seen it in various other shops for over £1 for a 500ml bottle.

I like the orange Lucozade Sport as a normal drink. It tastes nice and is good if you are thirsty but i did not feel much benefit energy wise and will look for an alternative for the future.
