I'm gradually working my way through the Lush face masks, I must admit I'm slightly addicted...okay I'm completely addicted and not ashamed to say so. I'm so in love with the fact that the products are made with pure thought and devotion that no other cosmetic company rivals them.
As I've come out the winter, spring and now coming into the summer I have suffered horrendously with bad, dry skin and unfortunately due to have a few patches of eczema on my face, mainly my forehead I now have very slight blemishes, which of course I notice everytime I look in a mirror! It starts to get depressing especially when your foundation cannot cover them up. After using Dream Cream on my face for nearly a year as great as it moisturised it doesn't exclude blemishes.
After having a look at other face creams and bio-oil
in particular (I then excluded bio-oil due to the price!) and I went to Lush as per usual. It's the same old story, if I can't find anything in a shop I go to Lush! After looking at all the different varieties I opted for the one which appealed the most to me and to my skin type.
Lush say that Brazened Honey is the deep-cleansing, detoxifying mask that you should use "when you are thoroughly ashamed of what you've done to your skin." Based on the fact that honey is a fabulous detoxifier that works well at fighting off acne and blemishes in general, I can certainly see where they were coming from when they designed this oddly bright yellow (almost flourescent in a way), deliciously scented sugar (honey) and spice (juniperberry, ginger, and clove bud) facial. (Summed up, it smells a lot like Honey Bee Bath Ballistic with added spice.) Yes it doesn't look particuarly pleasing when on the face it certainly does a good job!!
However, I find that this mask sort of teeters on the edge, in between skin types, unable to decide which way is best to go. For example, I would recommend this mask to those with shamefully treated normal to combination skin with oil-related problems (ie: acne, blemishes, etc) before I'd recommend it to full-on oily skin as Lush occasionally does.
Those of you with combination skin that needs a deep clean but generally has more of a problem with dryness than with oiliness may wish to opt for Love Lettuce, which is particularly good at simultaneously deep cleansing and rehydrating during winter months when natural oil production is slowed a bit. And while oily skin can certainly still use and benefit from Brazened Honey, for a more effective emergency cure, you should give Cupcake Face Mask a try for serious deep-cleansing and exfoliation of neglected skin).
With my detailed recommendations out of the way, let's find out how Brazened Honey does what it does; the front line of this skincare battle is fought by astringent lime, rosemary, and sage, all combined in a deep-cleansing china clay base with detoxifying honey, fennel, coriander, and juniperberry (a fruity, spicy precursor for gin). What a wonderful concoction of cleansing products which all team up to do a marvellous job at sorting your skin out.
Once they've fought the good fight, fresh free range eggs help to close the pores while ginger acts as a toner, glycerine and peanut oil moisturize and ground walnut shells exfoliate as you rinse this mask away (in circular motions to get the best results). All in, you'll find that this will be deemed an excellent product, sorts the skin out and smells absolutely divine.
Brazened Honey is incredibly easy to apply as are most of the face masks. It has quite a thick consistency which is great as you won't be wasting much. You only need to apply as much as it takes to lightly cover the face, don't over apply as the mask won't dry like it should do. While it's dry you can feel the coolness on your skin. I felt the exfoliating action of the ground almond shells as I rinsed it from my combination skin. The shell bits felt very "scrubby" but not excessively harsh.Once dry just gently wash off with warm water and pat dry. The result is healthy looking skin which yes it feels dry due to all the products included in the mask, but this is a good dry feeling, the skin is smooth and relaxed.
What Lush say:-
A powerhouse of effective ingredients for all tired skins, exfoliating, detoxifying, stimulating and nourishing. Refreshing herbs and fruit juice are blended with warming Ayurvedic herbs and spices. With almonds to polish and moisturising honey, this blend leaves the skin vibrant and re-visited. Apply to clean skin, avoiding the eye area. Leave for five to ten minutes, then rinse with warm water massaging gently. Keep chilled.
Brazened Honey will cost around £6.31 for a small 75g tub which is quite expensive considering it may not be for all skin types. But definately worth a go if you do suffer from spots and want a bit of face detox!
