I confess that I am a big Lush fan, and am easily tempted to part with large amounts of cash just by entering the shop. I used to have to travel into the centre of Newcastle to fulfil my Lush needs, but that has been sorted as they have now opened a branch in Gateshead's Metrocentre which means I can frequent their premises even more than before. Good for Lush, not so good for my purse, especially as my 8 year old daughter is also a convert.
In the past I have tended to go mostly for bath products with the odd skin product once in a while, however I have recently been reminiscing about taking baby massage classes with my baby, who is now 3 and it has aroused an interest in all things massage related. I just knew the place to go was Lush to get something different, and this latest trip was met with a positive reaction from the husband…maybe because he thought he would be on the receiving end of something pleasureable!
When I entered the store, there was a central display of quite a few massage bars, and as usual the smell was amazing. I began talking to one of the girls working in the shop, and as I was a massage bar virgin, she explained that for the most part, the massage bars were separated into two groups depending on what purpose the massage would serve. Firstly, if a night of sensual passion was on the cards, then there were some which had more potent smells, as opposed to the workhorse group of bars which were there to banish such nasties as cellulite or dry skin.
I will admit now, my needs were firmly in the former, as 2 active children, a dog and a full time job certainly puts the dampners on your love life. Hubby and I were having a night to ourselves, so I wanted to give him a little treat to relax him, so after much debate, I chose the cute looking 'Fever', a cream coloured bar with red lips on it which smelt amazing.
They are very simple to use. When you want to use the bar, you simply rub it in your hands to get it warm, which in turn melts the oils and butter. When you feel you have enough on your hands then apply to chosen area…..I will leave that to your discretion. The slower the massage action, the more luxurious the feel, so make sure you have time set aside to enjoy the experience. If you are mess conscious, then you can avoid grubby sheets by thoroughly massaging in the oil, but I assure you that the oils washed out of our sheets without any problems.
Like all Lush products, the bar has it's own unique mix of ingredients, which include cocoa and shea butter, rose, jasmine and sandalwood. It has a retro scent, which is meant to be reminiscent of the 50's, but since I was not around then I cannot vouch for it's authenticity, but I can say it is a very nice smell. It did leave my skin feeling very soft, and even my hubby said It felt nice, which from a cosmetic phobic such as him that is a compliment indeed.
The bar cost me £4.50, and judging by how much was used, I would say it would last around 6 massages, which is pretty good value in my books. You can also buy a metal tin to store your massage bars in for a further £2.75, although Lush often have offers on if you buy a couple of massage bars you get the tin free.
