I suppose you could say I get into the spirit of Christmas rather early. I am counting down already (56 sleeps now!), have a plan of what I am getting my family, am hoarding all the Christmas catalogues I can find and I am using up Lush special edition Christmas products like there is no tomorrow. I swear, without Christmas at Lush my Christmas just wouldn’t be complete. Christmas at Lush and listening to the Tweenies Christmas Album (the best Christmas album ever, it is a family tradition to over-play Milo, Jake, Fizz and Bella squeaking along to Christmas classics over every festive tradition. Christmas will be cancelled if one year we can’t play the songs...but that’s another story! Actually, I might do a review on that...) are my two main things that make the build up to Christmas so special! Anyway, this product I am reviewing is bought for me every year without fail, and boy do I look forward to it...
Little Bit Of Background...
Snow Fairy is sort of like Lush’s signature product (now signature scent, more about that later) at Christmas, it appears every year without fail and if Lush ever discontinue it they would have many angry customers to deal with. Snow Fairy is known for its pinkness, sweetness and girliness and me and my friends have to stock up with many of the large bottles to enable it to last all year round. I am literally on my last little drop of it now, and it is treasured, so I need to head off to my local Lush to get some more! Snow Fairy has been around for years, and I predict it will be around for many more... It was invented by Mark Constantine and Mo’s (the founder’s of Lush) daughter, Claire Constantine, when she was fifteen. She made it for girls just like her and with her daddy’s help; he made it a bestseller with not just fifteen year old girls, but women of all ages, shapes and sizes, plus a few guys too!
What Type Of Product Is Snow Fairy?
The product I am reviewing is Snow Fairy Shower Gel, which up until this Christmas was the only Snow Fairy scented product available...not anymore!! I have been saying for years (and I swear I am not making this up...) that Lush should do a Snow Fairy bath melt, and what is one of the new products for 2009? Star Melt – a Snow Fairy scented bath melt which promises to be the creamiest, girliest bath melt ever. I have yet to try it, but will let you know as soon as I do! Also new for ’09 is Snow Fairy Solid Perfume. Lush do many solid perfumes of their bestselling scents, and I have tried Snow Fairy Solid Perfume in the shop. It was lovely, but nothing can beat the original Snow Fairy shower gel.
What Makes It So Special?
Apart from the amazing scent, I love the fact that Snow Fairy, like many other Lush shower gels, can be used on your body and hair. It is obviously a fantastic body wash but it cleans my hair fantastically too! I use it instead of a shampoo and it lathers up brilliantly! It doubles (triples?) up as a great bubble bath too! The colour of the gel is a bright girly pink, which in itself is a reason for me to purchase it! I also love the specks of iridescent glitter; don’t worry, you don’t get covered in it, in fact it almost goes unnoticed unless you catch the right light – and then you’ll seem to be ever so slightly sparkly, like the fairy on top of the Christmas tree...
The Scent
Snow Fairy smells of what you would imagine candyfloss, jelly beans, bubblegum, sugar and a little dash of magic would smell like if it was thrown in a bowl and whizzed up together. It is incredibly sweet and quite fruity, too, and I don’t know how Lush created such a fabulous smell. It is so popular with the public, but if you are not a fan of the sweet stuff, I’d steer well clear. And although the scent may seem slightly too sweet in the bottle, but don’t worry, once you get into the shower/bath, the scent is just right – you can obviously smell it, and rather strongly, but it isn’t overpowering at all. The scent also stays on your body and hair (and in the bathroom) for ages which is a huge bonus; I would definitely say the scent stays the longest and strongest on your hair though – my friend had washed her hair in it and a strand of her hair whipped past me in the wind and I could just tell she’d used it!
How To Use
To use as a body wash, just use it as you would any other shower gel. It lathers nicely and just rub it all over your body using either your hands, or, to get an even better lather, a shower puff. (Is that what you call it? You know what I mean, don’t you? Like a body washer or scrubber or whatever. They’re popular in bath sets and they look like a ... puffy ball or something. I don’t know how to describe them...I’m just rambling now, aren’t I??). To use as a hair wash I would lather it up in your hands and rub it all over your (wet) hair. It works wonders and is like a shampoo, but better! Then after that condition as normal. This is one of Snow Fairy’s best points – I just love the fact it’s not just a body wash! And it’s final use – bubble bath! For lots of lovely scented bubbles just squirt some in while the bath’s running! A little goes a long way and it works just as well as other products which are actually branded as bubble baths!
The Aftermath
So, it may smell heavenly and seem to work great when your actually using it, but if it has no lasting effect it’s not going to be much good, is it? I find Snow Fairy moisturises and smoothens my skin fantastically; it is one of the best shower gels I have ever owned! It also keeps my hair shiny and clean for ages too! As mentioned, the smell lingers forever and it is just adorable!
Packaging
The packaging is typical Lush-style; a clear plastic bottle showing all it’s pink lovlieness. The lid and the label are both black – with the label reading ‘Snow Fairy’ in that Lush-font they always use. It has a little tagline and a bit of information: ‘Shower gel for body and hair. Candy floss pink and sweet as sugar, with iridescent sparkles and a hint of wicked fruitiness’. The one thing you need to look out for is a green stuck on label with a drawn picture of a persons head. This is a picture of the person who ‘made’ the product, and it will tell you their name too, but more importantly it tells you the day it was made and the day it has to be used by. I am telling you this because the print of the dates will very easily rub off and then you will never know when it should be used by!
Ingredients
Water (I know what that is!) Sodium Laureth Sulphate (erm...) Sodium Cocoamphoacetate (scratches head) Propylene Glycol Lauryl Betaine Perfume (yeah, know what that is too!) Lactic Acid (whatever it is, it’s in green so it’s natural!) Synthetic Musk (OK, Lush is against synthetic but almost ALL musk used today is synthetic!) Titanium Dioxide (also natural!) Iridescent Glitter (know what this is!) Benxyl Benzonate (hee, hee, that sounds funny...) Colour 18050 Methylparaben
It Should Be Used With...
I know in this section I normally only list a couple of other products, but I find Snow Fairy so amazing I think you should get the best out of it and see what suits you...*Please note: I am not to be held responsible when you use all your pay cheque buying these products! They are for you to pick and choose as you want!*
For A Real Taste (Smell?) Of Wicked Fruitiness...
Start off with a Catastrophe Cosmetic face mask. Then, a dollop of Snow Fairy in the tub, swirled around a little and a Blackberry Bathbomb dropped in to top it off. Ooh, and if you really want to spoil yourself (yes, please!) break off a chunk of The Comforter and crumble that in too. Then clean yourself with Rock Star and Snow Fairy, and perhaps some Sweetie Pie shower jelly? When your skin is dry, treat yourself to a sneaky massage with the Strawberry Feels Forever Massage Bar! This is pure heaven!
For The Ultimate Snow Fairy Experience...
Drop a Star Melt in the bath and watch it slowly melt away. Add a little splash of Snow Fairy, and use The Godmother soap (this is also scented with Snow Fairy, but luckily available all year round!). After you’ve got yourself out of the bath, rub some Snow Fairy Solid Perfume on your wrists, neck and anywhere else you fancy, and finally sprinkle a little Candy Fluff dusting powder on you.
For The Dancing Queen Rushing To Get Ready For A Night On The Town...
We all know the feeling – places to go, people to see...and around half an hour to get washed, dried, dressed and made-up. Arrghhh! Quickly, pop into the shower and drop the pink and sparkly Double Fast Luck emotibomb on the floor. Wash your hair in Snow Fairy. Then follow with the fantastic American Cream conditioner. Get rid of any nasty dead skin with the limited edition Fairy Tail sugar scrub, and then finish off smoothing skin with some more of the delightful Snow Fairy! After you have dried off a little, massage yourself (in double quick time) with Iridescent Glitterbug, a sparkly massage bar, then rub solid Snow Fairy all over, and dust yourself off with a LOT of Candy Fluff. Ooh, look at that – still have twenty minutes left! Your Snow Fairy has granted you a wish: you shall go to the ball! (on time!)
For The One As Sweet As A Fruit & Vanilla Sundae!
When you want to sink into a bath of sweet nothings in a sweet, candy and vanilla heaven, use this amazing ritual – a sure favourite of mine when I have the spare cash! I use Star Melt (or at least I will be doing, this is a new addition to my ritual), and also a Mister Butterball and crumble some Candy Cane into the tub (Creamy Candy and Mister Butterball could be substituted with Floating Island, or, if you are really rich or celebrating, then what the heck – chuck that in as well!), then add a lot of Snow Fairy. This leaves me with a pink, bubbly, sweet bath. I wash myself with Vanilla In The Mist and The Godmother soap (a lifesaver for me!), Fairy Tail Sugar Scrub and mounds of lathered up Snow Fairy. And I mean loads of the stuff! Then I wash my hair with my favourite combination: Snow Fairy and American Cream. I will review American Cream one time – but it’s Lush’s best conditioner in my opinion – and it smells of vanilla! Then, after relaxing in the bath I use Heavanilli massage bar and Vanilla Deelite body lotion, followed by Candy Fluff (this also smells of Snow Fairy) dusting powder.
By the way, I know some of these will break the bank a little, so just pick and choose what you’d like from these idea lists and create your own blissfull Snow Fairy bath!

Price & Gift Boxes
I find Snow Fairy to be quite reasonably priced, although it may not seem it! A little goes a long way and, unless you use it daily, a 500g bottle could last a year. Another good thing – the prices haven’t risen since last year!!
100g - £2.95 (It lasts for longer than you’d think!) 250g - £5.95 500g - £9.95
Snow Fairy is so popular it is also available in a range of Christmas gift boxes, all beautifully wrapped, I must say!: • Endless Fairy Tale - £74.95 Would never dream of purchasing this, not enough money! There are only 1000 of these in the UK, so you with the masses of cash – go get yourself one. It has almost all the Christmas products! I am not sure what size the bottle of Snow Fairy is in here, but it definitely includes it, along with: Angel’s Delight Moon (soap), Cinders (ballistic), Jingle Spells (ballistic), Satsumo Santa (ballistic), Double Fast Luck (emotibomb – basically shower ballistic), Christmas Party (ballistic), Snow Showers (shower jelly), So White (ballistic), Sexy Boy (massage bar), Candy Cane (bubble bar), Christmas Eve (bubble bar), Ruby Red (bubble bar), Snow Fairy (shower gel, obviously!), Let Them Eat Cake (lip balm), Father Frost (soap), Star Melt (bath melt), Lil’ Lush Pud (ballistic), Mr Butterball (ballistic), Want To Believe (bath melt), Snowcake (soap), Fairy Tail (sugar scrub), Strawberry Santa (jelly), Snow Fairy Solid (perfume), Wee Harry (bubble bar). • Winter Wonderland - £49.95 Still a little out of my price range I’m afraid. All shower gels 100g. Consists of: Rub Rub Rub (gel), Snow Fairy (gel), Up You Get’s (emotibomb), Happy Hippy (gel), Porridge (soap), Snowcake (soap), Helping Hands (hand cream), Snow Showers (jelly), Sugar Scrub (scrub), Let Them Eat Cake (lip balm), Vanilla Puff (dusting powder), Strawberry Feels Forever (massage bar), Double Fast Luck (emotibomb) and Fairy Tail (scrub. • Christmas Candy Box - £16.50 This is more up my street! Price-wise, that is! In it is... Fairy Tail (scrub), Yummy Yummy Yummy (shower gel, 100g), Snow Fairy (shower gel, 100g), Candy Cane (bubble bar) and Angel’s Delight (soap). • Stardust - £24.96 Can I just say all the products in this box are beautifully shaped, for example a moon for the Angel’s Delight soap, which has turned golden especially for this box! Joining it is... Snow Fairy (gel, 100g), Candy Cane (bubble bar), Star Melt (bath melt), Double Fast Luck (emotibomb), Fairy Tail (scrub), Angel’s Delight (soap) and Snow Fairy Solid (perfume). * Snow Fairy A little treat box – perfect for the kids! And not a bad price either. Lush are also (according to the Lush times) very proud of the fact this box has miniature bells on the ribbon! Just a small box, it has 100g of Snow Fairy shower gel and an Iridescent Glitterbug massage bar, perfect for going out!
Ending Note
Oh, erm, no, don’t all go and buy all the Snow Fairy Shower Gels after reading this review, no, wait, stop – there’ll be none left for me!! It’s not all that good really...waiiitt! Seriously though, please don’t ransack the shops (especially if you live in Leeds or Harrogate) or there will be no Snow Fairies left for me, and then I will be very sad! I think Lush should start giving me a share of their profit, the amount I recommend their products! Thanks for reading, hope it was enjoyable!!
Advantages: Smells amazing, soft skin Disadvantages: Smell doesn't linger on the skin, only available at Christmas
...bottle from someone on the Lush forum. As it is a Christmas product, I have waited until now to review it, as the Lush Christmas products have now gone on sale, and I didn't see the point in reviewing it, if it wasn't possible for people to actually go out and buy it. At the time of writing this, the Christmas products are in the shops but not actually online yet, but should be within the next week, I believe.
The shower gel comes in a clear plastic ... ...Like most of the Lush products, the packaging is very simple, as Lush prefer to spend money on the ingredients in the product, rather than the packaging it comes in. The main problem I have found with the bottle - and this goes for all other Lush shower gels in the 100g size - is that the bottle is really tough plastic, and its quite hard to squeeze. This means that sometimes you end up using more than you intended as squeezing the bottle so hard, ...

...snow).Well, I went to a Lush shop and really wanted to buy it BUT strangely enough, at the time I found that it wasn't that natural. It didn't fit in with the idea I had of Lush. When I had a look at the list of ingredients in the Lush Times, I saw mostly black words (which aren't as natural as green ones). So, even if I did like the smell I didn't buy it.
[I'd like to underline the fact that I'm not buying Lush products only because they are natural ... ...I've already been disppointed by Lush sevreal times but I'll tell you more in future reviews.]
The fact that it's Lush which has this product in its range helped, though, because I keep in touch with the new arrivals of products. If it had been another brand, I might have forgotten all about it! (apart from the Body Shop, whose products are on the whole good to me)
Time flew and this year, I got interested in it once again. I was convinced by a ...

...found the Snow Fairy rather lush (pardon the pun) in a slightly indulgent and completely girlie way that really lifted my spirits of a morning. Of course, scent is all for naught if the product doesn't work - luckily, this is as good a shower gel as any from Radox or Palmolive ;) I particularly like the thick, creamy but slightly gel-like consistency, and the fact that a small blob foams up hugely on a shower puff! The Company
Lush specialise in fresh handmade cosmetics and try to use only natural ingredients in their products. They also try to use as little packaging as possible and ensure that any packaging they do use is recyclable. Overall a very ethical company.

Advantages: smells lovely, non-drying Disadvantages: can stain sink/soapdish red
I love Lush?sSnowFairy shower gel, but it only comes out at Christmas. Thankfully, last year, Lush developed The Godmother, a soap which carries the same scent as SnowFairy. I have been using this in my bathroom as a hand soap for a couple of weeks now and thought I?d share my experiences.
The soap is a dark purple/red colour, and feels quite solid and a little waxy, whereas some of the Lush soaps can be quite soft and squishy. Personally I find that to be a positive thing as the more solid soaps don?t seem to wear down as quickly as the softer ones. I did find that this left a reddish stain on the side of my sink, so that?s something to bear in mind.
The smell, like I said, is the same as Lush?s Christmas shower gel, SnowFairy. If you haven?t been lucky enough to try it, then I suppose the best way to describe it would be ...
Advantages: Not as expensive as the other ballistics Disadvantages: Where to begin...
Having just spent a good portion of my student loan in Lush this afternoon my next few reviews are going to be based on my daily baths...tonight was the debut of Cinders.
I usually go for pink candy scented lush products such as snowfairy, marshmellow met etc but due to Cinders being promoted as popping candy for your bath I was sold on a gimmick....yes I am gullable.
The first thing that struck me was how small in comparrison to the other ballistics this was, this was reflected in the price though, £1.95 seems like a bargain compared to the average £3 mark.
Its described as being a spicy, soda scented Ballistic that crackles like a roaring fire. So I popped it into my bath and waited for the magic to happen....and waited .....and waited.
I have to say I was dissapointed, I heard no crackle or pop just the usual hiss ...
Advantages: smells OK, lathers well, gets skin clean Disadvantages: nothing special about it, a little pricier than others
I tend to have a few bottles of shower gel on the go at once - one to suit every mood! I noticed that a lot of my Lush shower gels are approaching their use-by dates, and as such have been using them regularly over the past few weeks to make sure I use them up on time! Having got to the end of all of the others, I was left with half a bottle of The Olive Branch.
When it came to picking a shower gel, nine times out of ten The Olive Branch would be near the bottom of the list. I don't know what it is about this product, because it's nice enough - as I will describe if you read on - but I suppose it just lacks the 'wow factor' I've had from some of the other Lush shower gels I've used, such as Slammer and SnowFairy.
The Olive Branch comes in the same packaging as the other Lush shower gels (apart from the name on the label ...
