Experiment 5 million and 1 in the Lush product range and today’s competitor is Sympathy for the Skin, a moisturising cream for all over your bod! (Er, does anyone think I should go cold turkey and try not to use Lush for a bit?)

Sympathy for the Skin comes in a 250g screw-top tub, and costs £6.45. Following is the description of the contents, but first be warned, Lush followers and interns!! This is the part that had me scribbling my details feverishly on the order form!!

Sympathy for the Skin contains (among the scientific bits and pieces) Vanilla Pod Infusion, Almond Oil, Cocoa Butter, Fresh Bananas, Sandalwood Oil and Lemon Oil. The description Lush gives it includes the sentence ‘it’s all you can do to restrain yourself from putting a spoon in it and scoffing the lot’. Do not take this warning lightly, people, they mean it! When I opened my tub of Sympathy for the Skin and inhaled my first scent, this was all I wanted to do. Eat it all. But don’t! Instead I slapped some on my arms and massaged it in. I smelt good enough to eat, which is always nice, and the moisturising effect and yummy smell lasted for about two days.

The cream is an off-white colour, fairly thick but not overly so, and has tiny brown flecks in it, presumably from the fresh bananas. You don’t need to use much to moisturise yourself, and this is coming from the girl with sensitive and often dry skin. You can use it all over and I have even used it on my face a couple of times when I couldn’t find my face moisturiser in the clutter of my bedroom. It’s great to use after a bath or when you’ve been in the sun and glides on like banana silk in a pot, which I truly believe it is. If you can restrain yourself from trying to eat it, then you’ll be glad you spent the money.

Note: Lush always marks which products are suitable for vegans and which may be unsuitable for those with nut allergies. Sympathy for the Skin is listed as potentially unsuitable for those with nut allergies due to the Almond Oil it contains.
