I tend to have a few bottles of shower gel on the go at once - one to suit every mood! I noticed that a lot of my Lush shower gels are approaching their use-by dates, and as such have been using them regularly over the past few weeks to make sure I use them up on time! Having got to the end of all of the others, I was left with half a bottle of The Olive Branch.
When it came to picking a shower gel, nine times out of ten The Olive Branch would be near the bottom of the list. I don't know what it is about this product, because it's nice enough - as I will describe if you read on - but I suppose it just lacks the 'wow factor' I've had from some of the other Lush shower gels I've used, such as Slammer and Snow Fairy.
The Olive Branch comes in the same packaging as the other Lush shower gels (apart from the name on the label of course), a clear bottle with black flip top lid and black label featuring white writing. Very basic, but Lush are a company who like to concentrate on the ingredients in their products rather than the bottles they come in.
So, just what are the ingredients? Well this contains Vine Leaf Infusion, Fresh Mandarin Juice, Fair Trade Olive Oil, Bergamot Oil, Lemon Oil, Orange Flower Absolute, Mandarin Oil, and Fine Sea Salt amongst other things. These ingredients combine to give a sweet, strangely creamy scent. To me, this smells leafy and fresh, with a subtle hint of orange. It's a pleasant scent, which at times I think can smell quite luxurious, but at other times, I feel smells bland. For me personally, I don't find this to be Lush's best ever scent, it's just a little ordinary and boring to me.
The shower gel is predominantly and orange/honey colour and has a layer of white oils on the top. You have to shake the bottle to mix the two layers before use, which turns the product a sort of fudge colour.
Calling this a shower gel is probably a bit misleading - there's nothing gel-like about this stuff! I've found it to be very watery. As such I'd suggest it's better to apply it using a shower puff. You lose less of the product this way - when applied straight into the hand it has a tendency to run through the fingers like water.
The shower gel lathers up well with or without a shower puff and the scent seems to intensify during use. After rinsing, I find that this leaves my skin clean, with a hint of scent. I have not seen any huge improvement to my skin - I cannot, for example, claim it to be softer or smoother, but on a positive note, my skin is very dry and this doesn't add to the problem.
The shower gel comes in three different sizes:
100g - £3.79 250g - £7.58 500g - £13.69
It can be bought in Lush stores or online at www.lush.co.uk
Overall, I have found this to be a fairly average shower gel. As you can see it's a little pricier than your average shower gel, and I would expect something a little bit more special to justify the price tag. This is OK, and I think it deserves three stars, since it's not fantastic, but it's certainly not terrible either, but personally I won't purchase this particular product again.
