Whilst rummaging through the wardrobe the other day looking for something I never did find, I did happen across a Lynx gift set that's obviously been lurking in there since Christmas. Probably the most interesting looking item in the set was a 250ml bottle of Lynx Snake Peel Shower Scrub, or Snake Peel as I'll now call it to save the wear and tear on my typing finger.
Snake Peel can be found in most supermarkets and Superdrug type stores and retails for anything between £1.99 and £2.37 for a 250ml bottle. If you keep your eyes peeled, or have a keen nose for a bargain, it's nearly always bound to be on some sort of special offer somewhere.
Anyway, always keen to try something new I put my bottle of Snake Peel in the bathroom ready for my next shower. Four weeks later, just kidding, it was next morning - honest! I was ready to go.
APPEARANCE
Snake Peel comes in a clear plastic bottle about 150mm (6inches) high with a black top. Initially you'd think the bottle was pale orange but that's actually the colour of the contents (more of which later). Other than the product name, the black label asserted its claims that;
"Lynx Snake Peel - the shower scrub for new skin with caring yucca extracts and desert minerals. Shed old skin - feel new".
So it claims to clean and exfoliate, we'll see.
OPENING / EASE OF USE
Snake Peel is quite an easy shower product to get into as you simply flip open the top with your thumb, tip the bottle upside down and apply a gentle squeeze to release the contents. The bottle does have finger shaped grooves down one side and a pimpled grip on the other side, which make it easier to handle when wet.
Unfortunately Snake Peel isn't a shower product which you can hang upside down by means of a hook on the bottle, as it doesn't have one. Having to stand it on the corner of the bath, or on the shower soap dish isn't normally a problem unless you happen to knock it off and don't take evasive action with your feet quickly enough - ouch!
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Snake Peel is a rather thick, viscose, gel like substance, which takes on a pale orange colour with a slight glittery sheen to it, no doubt caused by the desert minerals it purports to contain. Flecks of green are also evident throughout the shower scrub, these I can only assume being the "caring yucca'. It has a rather pleasant, citrus type, orangey aroma to it, which isn't overpowering in any way. Neither did it try to escape from my hands at the first opportunity unlike many other shower gels, although I wouldn't like to test this theory for too long . Anyway, on with the shower.
THE SHOWERING EXPERIENCE
A reasonable sized dollop (about the size of a brazil nut still in its shell) on the hand lathered up quickly when applied to the skin. It left a thin wispy lather all over my body, and if anything the orange aroma became more apparent with the addition of water. I also found that I could get an even thicker lather, whilst using less shower scrub, by using one of those shower puff thingy's (but don't tell Mrs Scampi).
My skin did get a mild tingling sensation from the shower scrub, but this dissipated soon after rinsing. I can't say I noticed or felt any of it's alleged exfoliating benefits, but then again how would I have noticed them during the actual shower short of feeling a scouring pad sensation? Maybe I'd be able to tell afterwards.
POST SHOWER
Whilst drying off I noticed very little dead skin flaking off my body compared to normal, which lead me to believe that the products claims are true. So those little 'Micro scrub particles' really had been working. After drying off (and hanging the towel back up I hasten to add) my skin also felt invigorated and quite refreshed.
Moreover, my skin had a pleasant, but not overbearing smell to it which lasted for several hours post shower, even in the current high temperatures we're currently enjoying. Now I can be prone to the odd dry patch on my skin, but after using the Snake Peel shower scrub none of the usual suspects seemed any worse than normal - so perhaps the 'caring yucca' had done its job as a moisturising element too.
OTHER STUFF
My bottle of Lynx Snake Peel shower scrub lasted for about 20 showers, or just over 2 weeks, but of course how long it lasts you would depend on how much you used per shower. But at a little over 10p per shower I suppose it represents average value.
FINALLY
I've given this product 4 stars, the one star being lost for price, as like many products in the Lynx range I feel it is perhaps a little over priced. Other than that though 'it does what it says on the tin' and I'd recommend it.

Advantages: makes you feel really clean. sometimes sold in discount packs/ buy1,get1 free offers. Disadvantages: can be expensive if you don't shop around
...as some of the other Lynx shower gels can really dry out my fingers for some reason.
But this one was really good. From the first time I tried it I liked it a lot. It has "micro scrub particles" in it, and these do seem to give a really good clean. Feels like it gets me cleaner than my last shower gel. And you really can feel the stuff scrubbing as you wash with it.
It comes in a really practical bottle too, that is great for use in the shower, ... ...unlike any of the other Lynx shower gels I have tried, it is quite pleasant in it's own way. It says on the bottle that it contains "desert minerals and caring yucca" which are really good for your skin apparently.
I gather from another review that it is not a good idea to get it in your eyes, but being a shower gel that sort of goes without saying, and like any other product, just make sure to rinse well with plenty of clean warm water, if it does ...

Advantages: Fresh feeling, invigorating. Disadvantages: Not a lot for what you pay.
I saw the advert and loved it, so I thought I will try a bottle and see what it's really like. It comes in a 250ml bottle and looks a pale orange colour but you can clearly see the dark specks of as they say desert minerals which help to scrub the dead skin from you.
At £2.07 a bottle I thought it was rather expensive but gave it a try anyway and I must admit I'm quite taken by it.
It is described on the bottle as: The Shower Scrub for New Skin, ... ...like you have a new skin as it really seems to work. It has yucca extracts which is kind to your skin, and desert minerals that shed the dead skin, the texture is not as course as some skin scrubs I have used such as in the Nivia for men range so it is kinder to your skin so it may be used daily if required.
It has been dermatologically tested which helps. It smells slightly citrus and although you can feel the particles of desert minerals working ...
