What Is Battenburg Cake
Battenburg is a delicious light sponge cake which is basically a cross - cut cake shaped like a window and can also be called a window cake , where one part of the bottom half of the window is pink and the other part of the window on the lower half is yellow.
On the top half of the window , there is exactly the opposite way of the colours bieng presented. So the yellow and pink makes a neat patern. The covering on the outside of the cake is a almond flavoured delicious icing.
The energy and fat measurements are all split into one eighth of he cake. The cake is easily cut into several peices and it extremly tasty with a hot cup of tea.
Facts
Some facts that i found quite interesting was Battenburg cake that battenburg had another original name , as it came from Queen Victoria's grandaughters wedding to Prince Lois Of battenburg in honour for the marrige which took place in the year of 1884!!!...
So Battenburg has been around for many years and has became very popular over the years...
It is also a well known fact that in early 2009 , Battenburg along with other foods with high artificial colourings and flavouring measurments will be permanantly banned!!!...
The Taste
Battenburg cake has a beautiful sweet taste. When i first took a bite into this delicous delight , i tasted what seemed to me as an almond taste which was stuck together with a nice thin layer of sweet jam. On the outside there was marzipan which also tasted of almonds. At first i thought that the cake was quite sickly and when i heard about the almond taste , i thought that my tastebuds wouldn't like it one bit!!!...
I was actualy very surprised at how lovely the cake tasted , I got used to the flavour and how it was a little bit sickly , but i do love a peiceof battenburg now and again!!!...
The Packaging
When I picked up a battenburg cake from my local Asda , I noticed that it was carefully wrapped in a plastic wrapper with a cardboard logo with a picture of battenburg cake being cut up. The ingredients and the measurments were mainly set out on the peice of cardboard which i didn't keep as I was too busy unwrapping the cake to munch down when i got home. There is a very big battenburg family cake that you can buy for around £2.00 , and there is also a smaller package around £1.00 which i think is very good for the amount you are given...
Why You Should Buy Battenburg Cake
Well, if you are a fan of Mr Kipplings cakes or like a treat now and again , then you may find battenburg a very nice treat with it's sweet taste and such wondeful patterns. Mr Kipplings cakes have also made small battenburg cake slices which may be ideal for snacks or for packed lunches for children. I feel that Mr Kiplings battenburg slices are much tastier and I dp prefer these. On other hand , battenburg isn't at all the most healthiest of baked foods by far. With the ban coming in early 2009 , It shows you how bad the food agency feels that battenburg is for you after all of these years originating from 1884!!!...
My Opinion
I found the news about the ban a little bit dissapointing as Battenburg is quite a favourite. On the other hand , i also thought that it is a very good idea as there will be less to trigger energy hyperactivity for children who love this cake. It will also be a good idea as it will not tempt me if i am on a diet which is a good help because you may know how much i love battenburg!!!...
...not here to learn. The Lyons Battenberg is packed in a cardboard sheaf and is wrapped in clear polythene to enable potential buyers to see the cake in all of its glory. For those of you who don’t know what a Battenberg cake looks like I will try and describe it to you. It is an oblong cake made of two pink and two yellow oblongs of sponge. The cake itself rests on a piece of thin cardboard, which is wrapped around the two long sides of the cake. The whole thing is then wrapped in a layer of cellophane, which is airtight. So, when you look at the cake on the shelf you can see the top, which is marzipan, and you can see the pink and yellow squared ends of the cake. When you pick the cake up to put it in your basket the ...
