Yamaha 4C Clarinet Mouthpiece

Advantages: Very smooth sound
Disadvantages: None

After losing my previous mouthpiece in an accident, i can only comment well on the smooth sound i get with this mouthpiece. It has been very useful for getting to the high notes and allows a wide range of expressions i was not able to play before, this may have been down to me getting better at the instrument. It was very easy to break in and it is now moulded to my mouth perfectly, im sure the clarinet players out there will know of the common whtie marks seen at the top of a mouthpiece. It is very high quality and was expensive but well worth the money. Reeds fit beautifully with it and a high quality cork was used. I can only say that occasionally when my mouth is tired after playing for extended periods, it sometimes lets out a squeak, but this is a combination of reed, mouthpiece, and facial muscle tiredness. ...

Cheap Reeds For Clarinet, But Poor Quality

Advantages: cheap
Disadvantages: low quality, split easily

Rico clarinet reeds were the first ones I was introduced to when I started to play clarinet. These a re natural reeds and tend to vary in quality. I started with a very soft one (they range form 1 to 5) and progressed through to a three. I have never got any further. Reeds can be expensive and beginning and less practised clarinet players tend to go through quite a lot of them. I have found a few split reeds and ones that were so thin that they were almost like paper at their tips among the reeds in a box of Rico standard ones. Rico reeds are cheap but they are also low quality. The Rico reeds tend to take time to break in and once they are suitably moist and playing well, they tend to split and have to be replaced. The Vandoren reeds are more expensive and they last longer but they tend to be a little bit harder than the Rico ...

Lyons Battenberg Cake

Advantages: tastes great
Disadvantages: high in sugar

Lyons Battenberg Cake This has been on special offer recently in Tesco's and since the offer has been on I have been able to eat single handed 4 whole cakes. The offer being buy one get one free and for a price of £1.29 pence, which gets you the two cakes, I think it is well worth it. The Lyons Battenberg cake has been around for years and has been one of my favourite cake time treats for many a year. The fact that this cake is so sweet really satisfies me as I have a very bad case of sweet toothitis. The Battenberg Cake is made up of a super soft sponge centre that is in two different colours and four separate squares of colour giving the cake a chequered look. The two colours are a gorgeous pink and a light yellow shade. The whole sponge centre is wrapped around the outside with a good thick layer of marzipan ...
