MAC's Capricious Lipstick is something I regard as my Holy Grail, everyday wear lipstick. I came to buy it first after my regular Dior pink shade was discontinued and after a long hunt for a similar shade I'd still not found something that really came close. A trip to my nearest MAC shop one day brought me into contact with one of the most helpful assistants I've ever met, who when I told her about my dilemma and produced my empty Dior lippy from my handbag, proceded to hunt through MAC's vast collection of lipsticks trying to locate one that was the perfect match. After hunting through what seemed like hundreds of different shades of pinks and various different textures, testing each one and comparing against the Dior shade, we finally had a replica of that perfect Dior pink!

The packaging is iconic - a black bullet shaped tube with silver edging. I love that unlike lots of other lipstick cases, these are really durable and don't get scratched when carrying around in your handbag so look just as good when you come to the end of the lipstick as they did at the start. Each lipstick contains 3g of product.

Capricious is a lustre finish which means it has a high shine finish and a far subtler wash of colour than the other textures. It feels creamy on the lips, almost like a lip balm, although compared to some other lustre textured lipsticks I've tried, this wasn't quite as moisturising. Still, it doesn't dry out the lips either so I can't complain too much!

The colour is fantastic. A deep pink rosy plum colour that looks lovely and natural with my warm olive colouring. I love the slight stain it leaves to the lips when it fades too - leaving your lips looking slightly bitten. It's subtle and pretty and perfect for everyday wear - it's the natural me but better! The colour is nice and buildable - you can achieve a really natural wash of colour if that's what you're after, or build it up to get a deeper, more rosy look. Granted, it's not the most exciting colour in the MAC range, but believe me, I had searched high and low to find a similar colour in nearly all other makeup ranges and not found one that matched this.

As it's a Lustre, it doesn't have the staying power of it's matte or cream sisters and I find I need to reapply this once an hour if I want to keep the perfectly finished look.

This is one of my favourite lipsticks ever, and I will continue to repurchase until the day they discontinue this (if MAC are reading this - please don't ever discontinue this one!) Although I've knocked off a star due to the poor staying power, this still tops the list of my favourite lipsticks. At £12 each, I think MAC lipsticks are really well priced and I feel they compare favourably to Dior and Lancome lippies which will set you back £15-20.
