Operating system / software
OS Provided: Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition / preinstalled
Software: Drivers & Utilities, Norton AntiVirus, Microsoft Works 2000
Advantages: Small and good value Disadvantages: not as powerful as most other Macs
...I am using this right now. it is a really good product for those who are trying out OS X for the first time. I use it for typing up work and surfing the net, and the occasional DVD. Do not buy it if you want a gaming machine as with an Intel GMA 950 graphics card with 64 MB will not handle games, moreover this comes from the memory as it is integrated (to save space of course) it is very very small and good for a no frills first time Mac or for anyone who is sick of Vista and wants to give something else a try before going over to Linux (nothing wrong with it though). Value for Money
On comparison with prices paid by my friends the maxdata is one of the best value. For £1500 (August 2000 prices) I got all the features as noted before, 15.1" screen, inbuilt ethernet card (a...

Advantages: Small and perfectly formed Disadvantages: Limited upgrade path
..., and you'll probably have no difficulty in believing that 'unstable' was a bit of an understatement.
I put it to them that anything I did to resurrect the system was going to be temporary, and that they needed something with a bit more clout to see them through the next couple of years at least.
We ended up selecting a reconditioned Deskpro EN, with an 800MHz PIII processor 14Gb hard drive, and had been upgraded to 256Mb of memory.
The cost from an ebay reseller was around £120 without operating system, in a 'buy it now' auction - when it arrived, it revealed it's 'enterprise culture' heritage by arriving with a 16Mb Token Ring card installed - this was immediately pulled & stuck in my spares box - somehow I just can't bring myself to throw these out, even though they are virtually useless in the 'real world'
The system is based...
