Where Did You Get The Shoebox?

Advantages: Made by Mercedes. Fun to drive. Cheap to tax, insure and run.
Disadvantages: Just too teensy for my own personal taste.

~ ~ The mad cabbie has been aware of these new 'mini' cars for quite some time now, but never had the opportunity to drive one until recently, as they didn't have a distributor here in Ireland. Thus any Smarts on Irish roads were either imports from the UK or the Continent, or driven by visitors to the Emerald Isle.
That has now changed, and Smart cars are now on offer to the Irish public through 5 dealerships here in Dublin, and one or two ...
...really only became aware of just how popular these little dinky cars had become when on holiday over in Rome in June of this year. (2003)
It seems like every second car on the Roman streets these days is a Smart.
I got a great laugh while sitting having an espresso at a pavement café. A very smartly dressed young Italian male in a Gucci suit (or something similar) pulled up near where I was sitting, and proceeded to park his shiny new ... more

SMART Passion Wagon - The View From 6 Years On

Advantages: Make me smile. Frugal on fuel. Fun. Fun. Fun etc
Disadvantages: Strictly for two, with minimal luggage. Cost of extras e.g. bike rack.

SUMMER 2007 REVISION. I haven't made any major revisions to what I had previously written, as my wife and I are still much in love with our dear little Smarty, but I have added a few afterthoughts as a last paragraph, based on what is now more than 5 years ownership. The good news is that there's little to report that's negative. Meanwhile, back at the plot...... JANUARY 2002 I wrote this as an owner of one of the first official right-hand-drive ...
...of Britain. So there it stood on our driveway, a Swatch*-Mercedes "Art" Car (SMArt, geddit?), all metallic blue and silver, smiling at me, saying, "aaah go-on, go-on, go-on, take us for a drive. Aaaah, y'will, y'will, y'will!" I did, and still spend my weekends looking for excuses to do it some more! *Swatch are no longer part of the consortium, having withdrawn after the design stage. Mind you, you can tell from the dashboard and interchangeable ...

Passionate About the Smart - STILL

Advantages: Small, cool, a joy to drive, minimal costs
Disadvantages: Only a 2 seater. Price of RHD car is higher then LHD

The MCC Smart and Passion is the finest car I've ever owned. Let me elaborate why! (Please note this is written in a different category to the other Smart op I wrote that one is in MCC Smart general, whereas this one is in the specific model category!) After liking this car for some time now, I finally purchased one in September. The price paid for this LHD Smart and Passion was £7100, which was slightly discounted after taking into consideration ...
...(DCUK parent company of MCC Smart) have introduced a long awaiting RHD version for the UK. Also you need to know that prices of RHD cars have increased over the LHD prices. Clear? Ok? Go to www.thesmart.co.uk for the latest pricing info! The Smart and Passion (or Smart Passion if you like) comes with a multitude of features as standard, features, which you may expect, only on bigger or more expensive vehicles. As standard you'll get front airbags, ...

Six years of fun driving

Advantages: Small, frugal, fun
Disadvantages: Tiring for a lot of long-distance driving. A bit expensive

I bought my Smart Passion in 1999, before it was available in right-hand drive. I reluctantly sold it at the end of last year after six years of sterling service, which I thought I would share. WHY A SMART? Back in 1999, everyone from North East London seemed to want to park in my road. I would return from a trip and find I was parking half-a-mile away. I was worried I would forget where I had left the car and spend weeks hunting for it. Then I ...
...gaps just outside my house (particularly where the people a few doors down had two cars and would deliberately manoeuvre the second one whenever they went away to leave a space which was too small for a normal-sized car). In those days you could only get Smarts imported in left-hand drive and I was a little nervous about going for something so out of the ordinary and unusual. But people told me about seeing them in cities on the continent and I ...

SiZe mAtTeRs

Advantages: strength,affordability,economy,equiptmentlevels.
Disadvantages: only seats 2 & peformance

The smart has sold well as it is like no other car on the new and used car market,Its unique styling inside and out is why it has done so well here on ciao.A family member recently bought a Smart Passion which so far is his best car he has bought new .His previous car a Citroen Saxo 1.1 Forte ,has been defeated in evely way by his new Smart but there is one thing , just one that the Saxo is better at,thats pulling away from the lights! Peformance ...
...The Smart has a tiny 3 cylinder 599 cc engine which provides a tiny 54 bhp engine which gets the Smart to 60mph in 17.2 seconds. For a car with only a 599cc engine i think the smart Passion could be a lot worse for example the Smart Pure(entry level) has a even less powerful 44 bhp which arrives at 60 mph in 19.0 seconds!.The peformance of the Passion is enough in town but begins to feal strained at more than 65mph Running costs *****5 star 5/5 ...

I want one of these

Advantages: Smart, nice to drive, MPG!!!, Price and very nippy
Disadvantages: Left hand drive, Not a family car

I don’t actually own one of these cars yet!!!!! But the test drive and info that I have on them is amazing, it might be a small car but I can honestly say that it has to be one of the best cars I have ever drove. I was totally amazed by the gear box, its not your standard gearbox (i.e. 1 2 3 4 5 Reverse) it is just a stick with the plus and minus on, and the best part is that there is a little display on the dashboard that tells you when to ...
...don’t even have to think about it does it automatically you simply put your foot on the brake and it will select the right gear as you slow, and one of the best features is that there is no clutch at all, you keep your foot on the accelerator as you flick through the gears and get the same performance as a manual car and if you are a little lazy (like me) you can simply press a button and your in automatic. Now lets talk fuel consumption, ...

Marmite on Wheels

Advantages: Small, fast, affordable, insurable, cheap to buy and run
Disadvantages: Too small for some. Not a family car by any means

Update - I loved it so much I bought one. This op will now serve as a pre-owning review, and I will shortly be writing a comprehensive review on the MCC Smart Passion in its seperate category! The Smart is a ?Micro Car? or ?Road Legal Go-Kart? if you like. It?s produced by MCC (the Micro Car Company), which is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Daimler-Chrysler group. It?s a marmite car; you will either love it or hate it! I personally love it. I have really liked these for a good while now, and finally took a test drive last weekend. The showroom we visited was in Milton Keynes, and is just down the left hand side of the Xscape Sportscentre. Very busy it was too, with many people in and out, all very interested in this unique car. Anyway we hung around and queued for a test drive, which was surprising, even for me, as was ...

Smart Passion Cabrio

Advantages: Eye-catching, economical, makes people smile
Disadvantages: Watch the cost of fitting accessories!

smart Passion Cabrio I bought my smart (note the lack of a capital ?s? ? MCC are pretty insistent on that!), brand new in March 2003 from Manchester smart Centre. Two main reasons for choosing a smart - both my partner and myself love them, and I thought it would be a great marketing tool for my new company. Manchester smart Centre A great place! Clean, large, great staff and loads of cars to see, both new and second-hand. The only problem was finding the place, but that?s another story! We were lucky enough to see a smart Pulse all fully liveried up as a police car ? blue flashing lights and reflective wrap and all. That?s right, the police use then for inner city duties! We chose the Passion Cabrio and added leather upholstery and a 6 CD multi-changer. No hassle, excellent ...
