If you want to add a strobe siren to your BT VP1000, you will need this wireless siren.

I added the MCS-700 to mine and was very simple, and all my friends have followed suit.

I Got mine from www.bpcsystems.co.uk, seems to have more bits for use with the BT VP1000 than other places I have tried, and their prices are quite good.

The only negative point is that it comes supplied with a 2 pin plug and not a 13amp plug. Not a big deal I know, you can simply put one on, but why should you have to ?

Another point is the Siren "squawks" 1 squawk when arming 2 squawks when disarming. I have left mine switched on, but I know a couple have had this switched off, but this can only be done by the supplier. They have to call the alarm box by modem and remotely program it on or off, you can not do it from the panel.

The siren was designed for the PowerMax range but is fully compatible with the VP1000 but is not available from BT.

If you intend to add a siren the instructions bellow will be very useful

Last point ….. you can have 2 of them if you want front and back of the house

Introduction
The MCS-700 is a wireless siren in a weatherproof enclosure designed to complement the VP1000 wireless sensor range. It comes complete with a battery backup, but requires mains power for operation. As well as a 98dB sounder it incorporates a strobe.
It is recommended that initial installation and enrolling is done before the unit is finally located. Prior to final fixing, a system test will identify if the signal is sufficiently strong between the panel and the proposed siren location.

The MCS-710 is exactly the same apart from the power supply - it dose not need one.

Installation
The MCS-700 is opened by means of a screw located under a plastic cover on the bottom edge of the box. The plastic cover needs to be flipped open before the single retaining screw can be removed. Once open, the backup battery can be connected and the bared power adapter terminals screwed down (no polarity as it is an AC adaptor). Note that the power adaptor supplied is a two-pin model which requires a three-pin adaptor to operate (not supplied). Do not plug in the power adaptor until the wires are terminated.
Successful power-up will be evidenced by a green LED.
Once powered up the unit should be tested for operation by depressing and holding the 'SELF TST' button for three seconds. A low-level sound will be emitted and the strobe will flash. Do not look directly at the strobe.

Enrolling
To enroll the device, select 'SYSTEM PROFILE' on the VP1000 unit. Enter code and press NEXT until ADD/DEL SIREN is seen. Press OK until EXT SIREN No 1 is seen.
Press OK again and ACTIVATE NOW is displayed. Now press the SLF TST button on the siren until the panel beeps and the right-most square of the display turns solid indicating that the siren is enrolled.

Testing
It is recommended that the cover is closed and secured for testing, and that the tamper switches are closed. The unit cannot be tested if there is a tamper condition.

Press HOME until ADD/DEL SIREN is displayed. Press NEXT until TEST EXT SIREN is displayed. Press OK twice and the siren will squawk. A signal strength indication will
be given, ranging from STRONG to POOR. If poor, the siren may need relocating until a good signal is achieved.

A good review, however I would like to correct your point about the MCS-710. It is not compatible with the BT VP1000, it is only compatible with the Visonic PowerMax+. I purchased a 710 from Wi5 Alarms (http://www.wi5alarms.com) and couldn't get it to enrol with the VP1000. After contacting Andy at Wi5 he pointed out that "The 710 unfortunately is not compatible with VP1000, only the 700 is. The VP1000 is a rev B panel and the 710 is only compatible with a rev F". So in short the MCS-710 is not simply a fully wireless version of the MCS-700.
