I am married with no children but we do have 2 Staffie Bull Terriers - one called Bruiser and the other is Molly. We are managers of a Public House and therefore work extremely long hours!

Having recently moved from a house to a flat(believe me this was a trying time!) we needed a new suite of furniture for the bedroom. Not having won the lottery recently, we were a little strapped for cash and decided to visit the MFI sale.
We were impressed with the wide range of products in the store. The prices were very keen too - we chose two wardrobes, a chest of drawers and two bedside cabinets.The total cost of all these flat-pack items was £175.00! An excellent price for all of these items of furniture.
The only problem was that the two bedside cabinets were not in stock. We were told that we could have these delivered free of charge the following Saturday. We were very pleased that they would be delivered so rapidly. We were told that we would not have to wait in all day as if we made a phonecall on the Thursday we would be told what time the delivery was due i.e morning or afternoon. Very helpful I thought, oh how wrong can you be!
The instore service was excellent. There were plenty of staff available who were friendly, helpful and efficient. The store that we visited had been newly opened and they had no specific loading bay. Two staff helped carry the items we had purchased to the car which was most appreciated.
My husband managed to put the furniture
together without too much of a fuss. I did overhear a few expletives but that was to be expected as my hubby, bless him, is hardly Bob The Builder! The finished Beech furniture looked lovely and is perfectly serviceable. I must admit that the wardrobes and drawers do not stand over loading but for the money they are good value.
So far so good we thought. Unfortunately the free delivery service let MFI down. I did what had been suggested and rang the automated delivery service line on the Thursday. I was asked to enter the order number that I had been given on the Saturday as part of my receipt. I followed all of the instructions and was informed that we were due for an afternoon call which was 12 - 6pm.
On the Saturday that the delivery was due we did not get up very early as we had over indulged on alcohol and pizza the night before! I went downstairs to collect the post. At about 10:30 am I went back downstairs to let the dog out (we live in an upstairs flat). Lying on the floor was a delivery note from MFI! There was nothing written on this note. I looked around outside to check that they had not been left anywhere. The rain was awful on this particular morning so I was hoping that they had not been left out in the rain but there was no sign of them. There were three of us and a dog in the flat that morning and none of us heard a knock at the door. The driver could not have even bothered to knock because our dog hears every little sound!
We were a bit confused as to what was going on by this point. The delivery was not due until the afternoon anyway. What was the point telling me to ring and find out when the items were going to be delivered and then just turning up when they felt like it anyway!
My husband got straight on the phone to their Customer Service Helpline. The number was on the delivery note and said that if we had any problems or queries with this delivery then this was the number to call. Well, we did have a problem as we had not even received a delivery! My husband finally got through to a male customer service agent after being on hold for about twenty minutes. The agent told him that he could not understand what had happened and that he would try to contact the driver. He could not get through to the driver and promised to call my husband back. The phonecall was not returned so I had to wait until Monday to call again.
I got through to the helpline after another long delay. I spoke to a very friendly lady called Carol. I explained the situation to her and she said that she would have a word with the Home Delivery Section. Sshe also promised faithfully to call me back. Guess what - no return phonecall!
The mystery of the missing bedside cabinets finally came to light the following day. As I said earler we have recently moved into a new flat and as yet we do not know our neighbours. I bumped in to the girl that lives in the downstairs flat on the Tuesday morning. She informed me that they had our bedside cabinets and didn't the delivery driver leave us a note to tell us that he had left them with her?
The delivery service was appalling. Not only did the delivery not come at the stated time but the driver made no attempt to deliver the items to the correct address. I understand that items are sometimes left with neighbours if the people are not in - but we were in! We also do not know our neighbours and in this day and age it is a bit dodgy to leace large items with people that you do not know or trust. The whole thing would not have been too bad if the driver would have told us where he had left our cabinets ie if he had written on the delivery note!
The fact that the Customer Service department did not bother to return our calls was dreadful too!
We would buy items from an MFI store again as we were happy with the service we received in-store. We would definetly not have any other items delivered from them again!
How helpful would this review be to a person making a buying decision? Rating guidelines
expected a sofa to be delivered today .... told them we would not be home in the morning .... they delivered at 10am.... what a waste of time .. next delivery for our area is 16th May. Couier was rude in my opinion and MFI did not want to know.

good review, just wish I'd read it before we purchased our wardrobe...... I agree with paulc2001, monkeys idiots and fools. But I also agree with you, monkeys idiots and fools refers to the telepone call system and its advisors, not to the shop staff who, once you get one to serve you, are more than polite and extremely helpful. I just wonder sometimes if MFI have got a little too big for themselves, they have lost something along the way. Diane xxxx

I agree, I have had a few probs with the delivery service at MFI as well...apart from that though there fairly reliable.

Advantages: The quality of their merchandise is much better than in the old days. Disadvantages: Customer service. Oh Dear, although not strictly MFI's fault.

Review of MFI (Shop)
Advantages: Wide selection, hygine checked, charity aid, low prices, great name clothes and friendly people. As well as the thrill of the chase! Disadvantages: As with all things, there are some good and some bad charity shops. Don't be put off by one bad one, as the majourity are excellent.
Advantages: stores all over the country, always a sale on, not too pushy, payment and delivery Disadvantages: those annoying adverts, having to pay extra for everything
