It can at times be very confusing to the average computer user to be faced with a decision on what sort of software they need on their machines to suit their own particular needs. If you are influenced by advertisements, it can be even more confusing and you will probably end up paying over the odds for a totally unsuitable package.
At fault is the confusion that some people have between “graphics” packages and “photosuite” packages, and this is something that you need to sort out before you decide which is best suited to your requirements. A graphics package is primarily designed to paint and draw. Most products such as Corel, Paint shop Pro and Serif, are marvellous and achieve miraculous results. A Photosuite package however is designed primarily, as the name suggests, to download and manipulate photographs from camera, scanner or file.

One of the best things about MGI is its ease of use. It is not necessary to study a handbook for hours. There are wizards which walk you through the entire procedure. The uploading from digital camera is the fastest that I have seen. The images are sensibly filed and thumbnailed onto a desktop.
The effects that can be achieved with the images are truly amazing, and it is not necessary to have a degree in photography to get stunning effects. My favourite is the stitching of pictures together seamlessly to produce a panoramic effect. I have an example of this at http://www.gefringraphics.co.uk/ciao/eye.htm It is possible to make 360-degree panoramas using the same technique.
You will no doubt have seen pictures made up from hundreds of other images. MGI call this, Phototapestry and is another amazing effect, which can be created with a few clicks.

Advantages: Good value for money Disadvantages: none so far
Why pay £45.00 when you can get it for About £25.00. I purchased a copy of Photosuite Platinum Edition a few months ago and have had great fun with it ever since. I first saw it on sale in comets and PC World for £45.00 but one night I happened to be watching the shopping channel QVC on Sky Digital and purchased from them exactly the same product with Videowave 11SE thrown in for about £25.00. You can also get this from there web site WWW.qvcuk.com ... ...packed with various photo editing features in a very well laid out manner and there is even a very good user manual to help you if you get stuck. I have tried other photo manipulation programes and find this to be the best value for money by far (especally at £25.00 not £45.00!) ...
