the fastest MG ever. Only 505 were built and this has to be the ultimate hot hatch, because it was a normal everyday car a bit bland to some people but the MG marque breathed its fire on to it and it became the daddy. Inside it was pretty much the usual maestro story plasticy dash etc. but added to that gripping and very supportive seats enblazoned with the MG logo, leather stearing wheel, red seat belts. One disadvantage is the brakes deffinatley can't handle the turbo charged engine. body kit by tickford makes it look well mean.
Advantages: Great looks, esp the MG Turbo, cheap to run Disadvantages: Rust
...sold it and bought......., the MG Maestro Efi. Same shape, identical interior, a super 2litre engine and all the usual mod cons (electric windows, central locking, power steering etc). Since then, I have fitted a body kit from the Turbo version and now it looks the business!
The reliability is stunning, the engine is practically bullet-proof - especially when it has been looked after and with a bit of TLC, you can turn the car into a stunner. The ... ...arches and tailgate (boot). But again, with a bit of TLC, you can prevent it. My MG is an 'E' reg, and has no rust what-so-ever.
Overall, I have been a huge Maestro enthusiast since I bought the 1.3L, and I will be one for many years to come!!! ...

Advantages: reliable, quick, cheap Disadvantages: a bit naff really! And Very rusty.
...only downsides to this car were its unfashionable image, and the fact that on the ones I owned the only parts of them that didn't have rust were the windows!
I really liked these cars, it's good to see Rover doing such a good job with MG these days. ...

Advantages: great range of vehicles of all sorts, cheap magazine, buyers guides Disadvantages: black and white on the whole
...I have to say that having read various second hand car books and supplements, Autotrader still rules all. They have an unbeaten number of adverts in their publication and the magazine is in depth. It doesnt just include private ad's but also trade ad's and it even has a buyers guide in there as well. The magazine is well seperated into good sections. These include Prestige Motors, Collectors and Classics, Bargains (1000-00 and under), General cars, sports, diesel etc etc and theres also a Commercial section with Vans, minibuses, hgv's and also a spot for Motorcycles, caravans and the section at the back includes breakers and salvage and insurance and services. Each section is split into alphabetical brand names so if your looking for anything from an Austin Maestro to an MG F or from a Citroen Berlingo to a Leyland lorry, this is...

Advantages: cheap to buy, excellent British engines, good fuel economy Disadvantages: rust
...'s make excellent first cars and family runarounds, so heres a few tips on what to look for if your after a Maestro and a few tips on the Maestro range.
For starters the engine - The Maestro in it's Austin-Rover guise came with a choice of a 1.3 or 1.6 engine. These are both incredibly reliable engines whichever you pick. The 1.6 is the same as was used in the Montego (examples of which are often seen having done 100,000+ miles as ex-company cars and still running strong), and the 1.3 is the excellently reliable and simple to work on Austin A Series engine, as used in the Metro.
You will also see MGMaestro's about which are similar looking to the 1.3/1.6 Austin-Rover models, but they have alloys, MG grilles, some more luxiourious features and a 2 Litre engine in the EFi. There are also some MGMaestro turbos around which look excellent...

Advantages: Stunning looks, good performance, decent spec, makes you make excuses just to go out and drive it Disadvantages: None
...I really dont know where to start on this one. When I first saw MGRover release this motor I knew I had to have one. In recent times I had bought classic cars including an MGMaestro and a Triumph TR7. I'd always liked my British cars but due to promotion at work I no longer had the time to spend working on older cars, nor could I be bothered with tinkering when I had been at work all day. It was time to by my first ever brand new one, and i couldn't have made a better choice.
I had always liked the zr and as I say i've always liked to buy british where I can so I popped down to my local dealers (Inchcape, Buron On Trent) one morning and had a word. I'd heard bad things about some MG Rover dealers so was pleasantly suprised with my local dealer. A very warm welcome was enjoyed and they'd be quite happy to let you browse...
