5 years ago, my father and I were looking around a second-hand car dealer. I was on the lookout for my first car. I had saved up for months, and I was ready to spend my hard-earned cash!! "How about this one?" my Dad asked. He had found a G reg Rover Maestro 1.3L. My first thought was "it’s an old mans car" but just to keep the peace, I had a look. The car was very clean and tidy, but with a few rust spots on the wheel arches. The Interior was very simple and looked surprisingly modern for a car of that age. I was so impressed with it, I took it for a test drive and later bought it.

I didn’t realise that this would be the beginning of 5 very happy years of motoring. The 1.3 never let me down, and the only repair work I had done was for the exhaust and the front brakes - even that was usual wear and tear!

I kept the 1.3 up until last July, when I sold it and bought......., the MG Maestro Efi. Same shape, identical interior, a super 2litre engine and all the usual mod cons (electric windows, central locking, power steering etc). Since then, I have fitted a body kit from the Turbo version and now it looks the business!

The reliability is stunning, the engine is practically bullet-proof - especially when it has been looked after and with a bit of TLC, you can turn the car into a stunner. The EFi engine is very quick, and was even advertised as being quicker than a VW Golf GTI!!

The only downside is the dreaded 'R' word - rust. Maestro's have always had rust problems, especially around the wheel arches and tailgate (boot). But again, with a bit of TLC, you can prevent it. My MG is an 'E' reg, and has no rust what-so-ever.

Overall, I have been a huge Maestro enthusiast since I bought the 1.3L, and I will be one for many years to come!!!

Not bad cars at all. I used to drive one when i first started driving. True they do get a bit rusty but the drive never lets you down. Chris
