Advantages: sturdy, cheap Disadvantages: not enough keys
When I first start getting interested in music production on a computer i bought the Oxygen 8 and was extremely pleased with it. I do not have much experience with piano theory so for those more into playing chords and more in depth structures, may find this keyboard limiting. But for those who are interested in the modern craze that is digital music production and its infinite amount of synthesizers, drum machines and effects, then this is defenitely ... ...Oxygen 8 is good because its cheap, its sturdy, it will last and it might the only midi keyboard you will ever need. In order to get sounds out of it you will need a computer with a music production program such as Reason or cubase. The Oxygen 8 is a USB keyboard and should start working as soon as you plug it in. It has 8 knobs which can be used to automate any virtual knobs which are within the programs in your music production program. This can ...

Advantages: sturdy, lots of features, works well Disadvantages: quite pricey
...most important thing about the Vestax VCI-100 is that is extremely sturdy and will last a very long time, The unit is heavy and sits nicely on a good desk. The VCI-100 is primarily a midi control unit, using the digital dj Traktor as its dj program. It contains two virtual decks which can be used in a number of creative ways to do things which replicate that of real vinyl decks. There is a number of functions for the creative dj such as looping features ... ...length, reverb, flanger, and other effects are also included but as a slight nag, are not independent of each deck and will effect both at the same time. The device comes with Traktor dj software which works well, but if you are using the set-up with a mac you may need an additional sound-card device which allows for headphone output (another nag). On a PC this shouldn't be a problem. Overall I still enjoy the vci-100 as a neat dj tool, one can easily ...

Advantages: About 50 controllers, comes with Sonar LE and Dimension LE Disadvantages: DJ controller flimsy, some driver issues
...pedal and this or an Edirol will work. Roland should work as well since Edirol are made by Roland, but I haven't tested this.
IN USE
Using the keyboard is very simple. The main drawback is the small screen. It only has four characters to display and with so many things that you can adjust, it just isn't enough and you may get confused. I recommend keeping the manual to hand or use the software to edit controls.
All the buttons feel fairly ... ...for the DJ Slider Control which feels exceptionally flimsy.
None of the controls have a 'click' center, but some of them have the option of having a 'virtual center' - it makes the center position a bit larger. Every time you move a control, the display shows the 0-127 value of what has just been sent.
The drum pads are a velocity sensitive, but are not very sensitive.
Velocity curves can be adjusted.
Each control can send a message on a different ...

...to download software from the behringer website in order for the device to function fully. this surprised me as most stuff is shipped with a CD.
it feels a bit plastic and cheaply built compared with other motorised mixers. the motors are pretty quiet and really fast. they are not as smooth as the more expensive motorised mixers but with the next cheapest thing being about £500 im not surprised.
i have been using one of these for about 6 months, ...
