Having owned the Mini One D for six months now I can truly tell what the good, bad and ugly points are with the Mini One D.
The car is completely standard with 100,000 miles on the clock.
Good: Top speed (rated) is 103 mph, I have had it (cruising) at 110. Acceleration - once the turbo kicks in you really feel the acceleration, have had 0-60 in 8.9 seconds. Grip - Amazing, as you would expect with BMW engineering, it really feels like a go-cart. Sound System - I have the uprated 8 speaker system which can play everything from Wagner to The Prodigy pitch perfect. Seats - Sports seats all round, perfect comfort. Interior - Beautiful, well designed and the central speed indicator is brilliant, real throwbak to the original. Front Styling - Beuatiful graceful curves, makes you smile whenever you see it from the front. Brakes - work brilliantly, great stopping power. Oil - Uses hardly any oil, have not needed to buy any since owning the car. Petrol - £20 per week and I drive to work and back every day and regularly make long journeys at the weekend. Insurance - Insurance band 7 although may be more with new model. Price - May seem expensive (second hand models still cost £7500) but it will hold its value far better than equivalent models.
Bad: Turbo lag - kicks in at 2000 rpm but behaves like a normal diesel till then Rear Styling - Awful compared to the front - like most BMWs the designer appears to have run out of ideas towards the rear of the car! Dashboard plastic - looks great but feels like it has come out of an Argos catalogue. Boot Space - Can fit 6-7 full shopping backs in but depth is problem, couldn't fit a set of golf clubs in the boot! Access to switches - love the styling but rings around the switches means that you will always take your attention from the road to flick a switch, or if you do not, flick the wrong switch. Anti Skid Control (ASC) - Really annoying, turns on automatically, normally when you do not want it to.
Ugly: Ride comfort - Stiffened suspension and Run Flat tires, common BMW mistake means that your spine will feel every single pebble on the road. Air Conditioning - none as standard, also no sunroof on early models leads to a 'stuffiness' in the car. Ease of Access - Children only in the back! Tried to fit two rugby players in the back and it was like watching a circus act! Windscreen Wash - I do not know why but it is the opposite of the oil - needs filling once a week, may be a small tank problem.
All in all there are a few faults with the Mini One D but I have to say that it is fun to drive and as long as you have not bought it as a family car you will be smiling whenever you are driving it.
Advantages: Retro looks, economy, great to drive, solid feel Disadvantages: BMW service, build quality suspect, annoying remote key fob
...quality is questionable. My mini is black - the paint appears soft and scratches very easily to reveal the layer underneath - I daren't use a car wash. Passenger door doesn't fit properly - not spotted on the pre delivery check.. The boot has an intermittent fault that prevents it being opened. I've just had a large bill for a seized brake caliper - on a car in constant use that's not three years old. I've long given up on BMW and use an independent ...

Advantages: None Disadvantages: Too many to mention
I agree with previous posts regarding the MINI. I have a MINIOneD and it is fine for short jaunts around town but get it out on the open road and the driving experience is a living hell.
The noise inside the car has meant I have either had to wear a pair industrial strength earplugs or crank the sound system up to 11 to drown it out. The seats might be fine for someone who is 4' 2" and has plenty of natural padding on the rear ( ie: big buttocks !) but I find it absolute agony after driving for more than 30 miles. On long trips I have to stop every two hours to get out of the MINI , rub my backside and shake my leg to get the circulation going again.
The firm suspension adds to the general discomfort and lousy driving experience when crossing the rough shod roads of the counties . There are no rattles in the car yet , I ...

addressed by BMW Mini: After determining that the end of the clutch and steering column wasn't down to driver abuse and that i was only one month out of warranty, they paid for all labour and parts for both faults.......... so i can't really complain
I'd probably take a mini again though would be cautious about taking one out of warranty. ...

Advantages: easy to tune, excellent build quality from trusted brand Disadvantages:
exhausts etc etc the list is endless. You can even fit nitrous oxide (although after saeeing two separate bike blow up at a meet I would advise against this).
If you have any queries or problems with your Blata then there are several forums that offer very good help and assistance. From starting issues to how to ride one to tuning to local meets. It is all in there.
You'd think that mini motos are for kids - Wrong! I was the youngest rider there, at the tender age of 24! THe rest were men well in their late thirties and forties. It is a good crack although be prepared for several bruises (as you knock knees and elbows at most corners), bashed fairings, feeling numb when you stop the race (there is 'real' suspension to soak up the bumps - and you feel everyone) and the banter after the session. It is all in good jest but the language does ...
