The Cowon S9 is an extremely advanced mp3 player with revolutionary sound and video quality. I own this mp3 player and I am happy in my investment. The amoled technology embedded in this MP3 player makes it different than any other portable device in video quality. Also, the JetEffects 2.0 software embedded makes the sound of this MP3 fantastic, you can set your own sound preferences and adjust the sound based upon what you are listening to. The design of this device is very neat and the weight is unbelievable, just 2.7 ounces compared to the 16GB iPod Touches 4.05 ounces. At just around £200 this product is a steal. A player with amazing features built in!!! Advantages: Sound quality, battery life, radio, microphone, ease of use Disadvantages: Only a screen on the remote I love this little mp3 player. Really sleek and the main body is made from high grade metal which is a lot more scratch proof than plastic. What makes this device special is it's separate remote control that can clip on to your clothes while the main body sits in your pocket and still gives you full control of the main device. It's price vs capacity is excellent and as well as playing music, it can display .txt files and be used as a portable hard ... ...This player also comes with several in built must have features like FM radio, radio record and in built microphone. iPod? Nah. This is better. WAY better. Advantages: Amazing sound, good codec support, small in size Disadvantages: Lack of included accessories ...DRM in any form, but Cowon have released a firmware upgrade that's compatible with Windows Media DRM and it's likely they'll add more soon. My only real bugbears are: 1) Very few accessories included - no case (essential if you want to keep it safe from scratches and low impact knocks), no dock and no remote. All are available, but at hefty additional costs. 2) The buttons on the side don't feel like they could withstand a year or two of heavy use ... ...of various accidental tugs. Even though I quite like the joystick, I think recessed buttons on the fascia would have been more beneficial. Otherwise, the X5 is the closest iPod rival (and perhaps confirmed killer, for me at least) yet and, if you ask me, it beats the iPod hands down. The Quiet Competitor to the Heavyweights Advantages: No restrictions, vast format support, colour screen, video support Disadvantages: occassionally clunky interface, poor firmware following, video support is flawed ...and found it encouraging that Cowon are not so desperate to jump on the rights-grabbing bandwagon. However, some recent beta firmware builds have experimented with DRM support but is not at a stable release yet. Although the X5 supports images and video on its very lovely colour screen, I don't feel that either have been implemented very well. The pictures viewer suffers from a clunky interface for navigating them, and it's rather slow at loading ... ...weakness of the player, but Cowon has long promised a firmware update in the future that will add this much-wanted feature. Be sure to look for software that can help monitor and sort your collection into artist>album>title structures. The X5 is one of a very select few that allow some sort of customisation. If you download pictures onto the player, you can select one to be the background for the main player interface. excellente Advantages: Great range of activities. Screen quality Disadvantages: low battery life, back cover not scratch proof ...the app store many times during the day and it seems apple have found and app for everything. I feel this product was great value for money and even talked my sister into buying one as it was such a good deal.
