Basic but good mp3 player.
Advantages: Value for money Disadvantages: Basic functionality
I had this mp3 player for a couple of years and I grew to really like it.
Please note that newer more fancy mp3 players are available now, although I bought mine a few years back.
The player is reliable and never broke down. It is easy to use and you don't need to ever read the instruction manual.
The display screen is small, but you can still see whatever you need to see. When looking at lists of songs you can see 3 songs displayed on screen ... ...great. I bought better ones for around 10 pounds seperately.
The sound quality is good, and so is the FM radio.
You can't watch videos on this, its only for music, and there is no connectivity to the internet either. You can't read books on this, nor are there any games. It's not a telephone.
This is not the best player you can buy! However as a value for money proposition it worked for me. ...

Iriver are a benchmark in quality
Advantages: Superb quality in every way Disadvantages: not a great amount of memory
I paid about £80 for this about 2 years ago, and was pleased to see it hadn't dropped that much in value, as it is quite a robust light weight MP3 player, with good controls, high quality finish and well thought out design. At only 128 megs, it is handy that it also plays WMA at half the memory of MP3, so you can get a twice the amount of songs in there.
It is very durable, I use it while riding a motorcycle, using the supplied neck rope and have ... ...a scratch on it.
The software setup is easy, and is easy to copy songs to made up directories for easy sortation. There is a full range of play options as you would expect: shuffle, repeat, repeat folder, play all once, play all infinite loop etc. You can set the display to show time remaining track, folder etc.
The sound quality is exceptional. I have it set to 3D sound and this gives a massive surround sound through small in-ear headphones.

IRiver iFP 880
Advantages: Small sleek great looking Disadvantages: only 128 memory
This great looking little player is a must have for the music fan who doesnt need 1500 tunes to choose from. With its 128mb memory you are realisticly going to get 120 in the wma format and maybe 65 mp3 tunes. This little monster is no slouch when it comes to playing them back to you as it has 40 hours playback so if you are like me and listen on those boring train rides to and ftom work its only gonna need charging once a week. I found this model ...

iFP 390T Small in size, big in functions!
Advantages: 5 band equalizer, good microfoon, plays OGG files, long batt life Disadvantages: only 256MB, USB1.0 might be a little outdated
...the firmware). The Iriver company is very busy and all with releasing updates of there firmware and that's a good thing!
Furthermore; the screen is easy to read in all circumstances, the menu structure takes a bit of getting to know it, but when you know it, you will be navigation faster than any Ipod owner could ever dream of.
The line in function is nice if you want to record something that's on the radio for instance. I personaly find myself ...

The iRiver
Advantages: memory capacity, overall look Disadvantages: navigation of menu, headphone quality
My iRiver has a 20gb hard drive. It only cost me £199 and they are even cheaper now, although this model seems to be hard to get hold of.
The hp-120 has more features than you know what to do with. It comes with an internal and external mic. This means that you can not only record as you would with a dictaphone, for as long as you desire, but you can also record live with excellent sound quality! I have found this incredibly useful in lectures or ... ...you want. The iRiver comes with a built in FM radio, and although it occasionally goes fuzzy, the overall reception is outstanding. To control the device you ahve to use a jog type button on the front of the handset, and it is not that easy to move around if you have clumsy fingers! You click to start the meni=u screen, then move it up and down to navugate.
There is also an excellent remote that performs EVERY feature on the device, and has a mini ...
