Ready? Not Steady, GoGear

Advantages: Long battery life
Disadvantages: Playback not smooth, loose USB cap

...rechargeable (AAA) batteries. The Philips GoGear SA2620 is a no-frills and no-radio MP3 player, and comes with a USB Cable stickered, "IMPORTANT - Install software first", but I doubt whether it's necessary to do so - surely you can just drag and drop without installation. The cap protecting the USB plug felt too loose a fit and comes off easy leaving this end exposed. The interface is quick and easy (I never needed to refer to the manual), however, ...
...is the third pair of Philips earphones which I have damaged/destroyed within a year. Of the settings, the SA2620 has six equaliser presets - not that I needed them, as well as support for 19 languages, so it was able to display song titles with Traditional Chinese Characters. The Volume Limit feature is handy. There's also the option to change the backlight timer to save on the batteries, but the best thing about this MP3 player is the battery life, ...

Go Gear hits a flat note

Advantages: Lots of storage space, compact, can play mp3's and videos
Disadvantages: Video quality is poor, the sound is thin

The Go Gear is Phillips response to the excellent ipod and the Sansa mp3 player. I was bought this mp3 player last year and am still undecided about this one. Firstly though it allows the standard fare of being playing mp3 files and WMA files but it also allows for video playback. It is nice to have this additional feature on the phone but it definitely comes secondary to the music. The screen seems a little but the options are presented in a concise ...
...available to you. The options include playing by artist/all/album. The first thing I noticed when playing music is the sound is surprisingly flat. I adjusted the tone controls and added bass boost to the song. This did provide a more fuller sound but it seemed to do so at the expense of the midrange. I thought this might be a problem which might have occurred because this was a poor quality bitrate mp3 file and indeed when I changed to a higher bitrate, ...

GoGear Music

Advantages: Great Sound
Disadvantages: Non

...The look of the Philips GoGear is a little basic but basic can be good, the main colours are silver and black with the black on the front and the silver on the black. The buttons are a little too close together making it easy to go on the wrong thing on the menu. Sound The sound is really good, clear (Mostly depending on the mp3 quality), and as loud as you want, also helpful for the parents there is a volume control block setting that allows ...
...To add to the clarity of the sound the equaliser is outstandingly helpful and can make a big difference to what you are listening, there are lots of different pre- set settings all from rock to jazz with the rest in between with one custom setting for all you DJ's out there. Features Of cause along with playing MP3, WAV and WMF files it can read txt. files if you a bit of a reader and photo viewing if you like to keep your photos to show the ...

An insult to working MP3 Players

Advantages: Makes a good paperweight
Disadvantages: where to begin? Crashes/freezes often, tacky looking, difficult to use

This MP3 layer is an insult to all other mp3 players out there which actually work. The thing constantly freezes up on you (upon which you have to restart it by pressing the volume up and power key together). When it freezes the thing will keep playing through the playlist, wasting your power but refuses to take any kind of instruction from you, the owner. The picture slideshow function sounds nifty, if only I could get it to work. This thing has ...
...of use, everything you do with it must be an adventure in of itself! For 6 gigs you get a good number of songs, and the windows media player sync ability works out quite well in that regard, but nothing else really works up to snuff. The picture looks alluring but I assure you those buttons and lights are very tacky and cheap looking once you get it. The touchscreen and pads get dirty very quickly. You can adjust the volume after you locked the ...

So nearly a great MP3 Player

Advantages: Sound quality. Expensive looking glossy finish.
Disadvantages: Documentation, user controls, low volume.

...I was drawn to the Philips 9200 because of its support for Windows Media Player, small size and expensive looking glossy finish. In the box you get: ... The player ... In ear phones ... A nice glossy stand (thoughtfully heavy enough to stop the player falling over) ... USB cable (that connects to the player or the stand) ... A soft storage bag ... CD-ROM containing driver and manual ... A better than average quick start guide USB2 is used ...
...cute and stylish, still has the best controls and integrates with iTunes better that the Philips does with WMP. On the other hand, the Philips has a better feel in the hand, looks better put together and just has the edge for sound quality. Overall it's too close to call. ...
