Advantages: Value for money, competent integrated hardware (especially the sound) Disadvantages: Geforce2 MX a little dated for todays games
I was building a PC on a budget over a year ago, and was looking for a solution that offered a good price/performance ratio. It was then that I stumbled across a new concept in motherboards - nVidias nForce chipset.
>Overview<
---------------
This MSImotherboard utilises nVidia's nForce chipset.
nVidias nForce (now superceded by the nForce2 and 3) was and is a milestone in motherboard technology. Never before had so many competent technologies been bundled into one board.
The chipset main features are:
Support for Duron/Athlon/XP processors with an FSB of 100/133mhz
...and thus 200/266mhz DDR RAM memory in DUAL CHANNEL mode.
Integrated nVidia Geforce2MX-class 'crush' graphics
Integrated nVidia SoundStorm Dolby Digital 5.1 sound
Onboard Networking
As far as CPU support goes, I think this goes up to the Athlon XP ...
Advantages: cant fit them all here theres a big list in the review Disadvantages: nope none
this is the newest motherboard to my collection and the 1 i use the most when i got this one i noticed that all the specs and the layout of the board are identical to the asus board i reviewed earlier but more care has been put into this board a soon as you poen the box i noticed better packaging no cheap coragated cardboard wraped around this one it looked as it was a trophy in its own cabinet once you remove the board from the box there is a hidden door behind the board holding all the extra accesories inc 4x sata cables (asus only had 2) 1 ide cable for your cd drive and 1 floppy cable and 1 sli bridge for joining 2gfx cards together
on the picture of the product there a 3 black heatsinks the 1 on the bottom left the asus board does not have also this board has a spdif output (optical output for sound) which asus doesnt have also ...
The MSI K9N2 Zilent is based on the nForce 750a chipset. The MSI K9N2 Zilent supports AMD socket AM2 and AM2+, phenom CPU, PCI-Express generation 2.0, hybrid SLI and eSATA. The motherboard is equipped with the award winning MSI Ciru-Pipe heatpipe cooler. The MSI K9N2 Zilent is bundled with a Zalman CPU cooler. The MSI K9N2 Zilent motherboard is Hybrid SLI ready. With this technology users can combine the onboard GeForce GPU with a MSI graphic card based on Nvidia chipset. This creates an extra performance boost. The MSI K9N2 Zilent comes with MSI's exclusive circu-pipe heatpipe cooler. The MSI circu-pipe effectively reduces the high temperature of the chipset and MOFSET, this improves the system's stability and product life. The CPU power supply of the MSI K9N2 Zilent is based on a five phase PWM design. The PWM capacitor on the motherboard is HI-C CAP. HI-C CAP (highly-conductive polymerized capacitor) is a high end capacitor which is already used for years in the server industry. MSI is the first to implement this next generation solid capacitor on the desktop platform as well. The HI-C CAP is suitable for motherboards with a high-frequency switching power supply. The looks of the HI-C CAP are similar to the Tantalum capacitor.
