Advantages: Looks great, excellent features, very stable Disadvantages: Slightly expensive, no other disadvantages
The Socket 939 Athlon 64 processor is a fairly new technology, and has been available for about six months now. Many people are reluctant to upgrade, either because they have a good enough system already, or they cannot afford the jump to 939 pin technology. The MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum is a motherboard which supports 939 pin Athlon processors. I bought it about 2 months ago for £90, and you can get it now for about £80. The following review will explain every detail of this motherboard, to make it more understandable by you. There will also be a brief explanation of what '939 pin' is.

Advantages: Fast, cheap, stable, excellent support and v good manual Disadvantages: Requires a minimum of Win ME upwards
Ive been using the MSi 845E max (6566e) motherboard for the past 2 years and it still performs as stable now as it did back then.
The board itself is very well packaged and comes with all the usual extras including drivers CD and IDE cables for both CD-roms/hard drives and floppy disc aswell as an excellently informative and well laid out manual.
The 845E Max by MSi supports all Pentium 4 processors as well as Celerons upto 3.06 ghz using the built in 845E Intel chipset and includes full support for both 133mhz front side bus (FSB) quad pumped (133 x 4 = 533 fsb) Pentium 4's and 184 pin PC 2100 (266mhz) DDR memory upto 2 ghz, there are 2 available memory slots which is plenty for most people and i whole heartedly recommend firstly adding 1 x 512mb of DDR to the motherboard so as to leave 1 free DDR slot if you ever chose to add ...
Advantages: Plenty of expansion slots Disadvantages: Some serial numbers have had random shutdown problems
I have used MSI boards for years finding them generally very reliable.. I have had a problem with the USB on this board and there are reports of radom power offs and crashes which can be read elswhere - I have not suffered from this. Expansion is excellent and the board is very quick. The MSI utilities are useful especially the bios and driver updates which so far have been very reliable. They come in two flavours either using the update feature on the MSI website or from the supplied software. I would recomend a fairly high wattage PSU with this board as it will save on a later PSU upgrade if you go down the SLI graphics upgrade path or continue to add components later on. It can be overclocked quite easily and remains fairly stable. There is also an option to speed up the processor or slow it down depending on whether you are playing ...
