Twenty years ago, Music Television (MTV) was born here in America. It premiered at midnight with “Video Killed The Radio Star” – one of the most immortal music videos ever. I remember when MTV was THE music channel available on Sky or any other satellite system in England. It was an American Idea spawned in the early 80's as the Music video became the way to sell new music. Make a rediculous short film with the band of your choice miming along to their latest song. Some of these videos became classics in their own right just like songs do. To screen these videos came a new channel, dedicated to purely music. MTV has got to be one of the best channels available on any of the digital television services, mine being the SKY equivalent. MTV is the big daddy of all the music channels which are becoming more and more popular. This has been recently proven by the fact the BBC’s Top of the Tops has announced that it isn’t the ‘Number one anymore’ and that rateings are down.
