There have been many versions of Mac OS X in the past few years and with each version they have gotten better and better. This version is no exception. With improved graphics, new applications, and much faster response time, the new OS X 10.3 is everything that 10.2 was and more. Here are just a few of the things that 10.3 (Panther) contains:
-An entirely new finder with a tool that lets you hide windows and automatically adjust the windows so that you can view each one with the touch of a button.
-Folders and files with new graphics on them as well as shortcuts to your most used files.
-Instant video confrencing with anyone over the internet for free
-Easy to use interface that will give even the most novice of users an easy way to get on the computer and start surfing around right away.
Just a few of the things that make your daily life easier now come standard on Panther. Don't worry though, all of the old standby's are still there and work the same as in earlier versions of OS X.
This OS X is built on a solid UNIX foundation just like the others. The foundation provides a crash free workplace where you won't get any of the problems that Windows machines frequently succumb to just as you are finishing up a big assignment.
Another new component that more advanced computer users will find is the huge new devolpment enviornment that comes with Panther. All the developers tools that before needed to be purchased sepratly now come bundled on the install cd for Panther.
These great new improvements come at a big cost to the average user though. Panther required around 3 gigabytes (GB) to be installed on your computer. This may disqualify more ancient computers from being able to install this software; however, you do not need a fast processor to run Panther as long as you don't mind waiting a little longer for things.
To run Panther effectively with little wait time I reccomend a processor speed of at least 700mhz G3 and at least 10gb of memory and 512mb of ram. This will ensure that you will get the most out of the system. Keep in mind that you don't NEED any of this and any kind of Apple computer with a hard drive larger than 3 GB will be able to run Panther.
One of the biggest problems that most people run into is the fact that some programs do not work on Apples. This is untrue in Panther. You can find many of your email, word processing, internet, and other common applications on the Apple as well as some ones that will have your Windows friends wondering why they havn't switched over yet.
Overall this is an excellant product. From developement to packaging OS 10.3 is a great buy for anyone thinking about buying or who already has an Apple computer.

(+) Superb screen, superior speakers, huge capacity, multiplicity of functions, brilliant photo suite (-) A new 'language' to learn and company support not as good as one would expect.
