I've spent the last 20 odd years trying to find a foundation that ticks all the boxes and have rarely bought the same one twice. I've tried the cheap and cheerful and the outrageously expensive and none of them have lived up to the expectations I had for them.
I'm lucky enough to have a M.A.C concession nearby and bought one of their liquid foundations and Studiofix in the past, but found that it caked and looked uneven. I now know that Studiofix is designed for oilier skins and as I have normal/combination skin it would have always been unsuitable.
Studio Tech, on the other hand is a combination of water, emolients and powder that sits well on every part of my face, from the dry to the oilier. It comes in a plain black M.A.C two section compact. The top section has a mirror and a foil sealed foundation, and the underneath section holds the application sponge, which I suppose is for hygeine reasons and to keep the foundation from soaking into the sponge when not in use. It blends really well and lasts me 8-10 weeks when used almost every day.
For the first time in my life I was applying make-up in the morning that was still in place at teatime! I topped it off with a M.A.C pressed powder and this is still going strong after 6 months. I never need to top up with foundation during the day, although sometimes I do apply more powder. It goes on really easily and evenly, and makes my 39 year old skin look fabulous. It matches my skin tone brilliantly, which is not surprising as the range of shades is enormous.
It's not a sheer foundation, so people who only need a light base won't need it, but neither will it make you appear to be wearing heavy make-up, as it goes on matt. This makes it perfect for those of us who like to give the illusion of perfect skin without appearing to have layered it on with a trowel!
My advice to anyone thinking of trying this is to visit the M.A.C counter in person to get an informed opinion from the (usually) well informed assistants. They'll be more than happy to sit you down and make you up, and give you tips and suggestions before you decide to buy. The best one I got was to use a brush to apply the foundation as the sponge supplied with it can absorb too much. Once you know your product and shade you can reorder from their newly launched online shop. If you try it and decide to stick with it, save your old compacts, as you get a free lipstick for every 6 empties you take back to the store.
There are 2 niggles I have with the product. The first is the price - £22 for 10g - which is more than I'd like to pay, and in fact I wouldn't keep paying this much if I wasn't so happy with the result. The second is that to get the most from it you have to spend extra money on a brush. I'd bought one previously with the liquid foundation, and again, the result is fabulous, but that's another £25 you'll have to shell out, so make sure you test drive it first! There would have been a third niggle - lack of M.A.C counters in the high street, but they've got their act together and made it all available online.
Advantages: Good coverage, looks nice Disadvantages: Not sure it will last long
...I would go in the MAC store in Westfield and try and get some advice so I could actually get a good foundation and stop wasting money on those I don't like.
I have used MAC products before and have always been quite impressed with how good they are, so I knew that I would be able to find something good. I went in to the store and spoke to one of the sales consultants and expplained the kind of foundation that I wanted. She chose the colour and suggested ... ...black cardboard box with the MAC logo on it. It tells you the weight of the product, which is 10g. It also tells you the shade of the foundation on the top. The one I purchased was NC25. I would advise that you ask one of the consultants if you are not sure of what colour you need. The ingredients of the product are on the back of the box so if you have any allergies or want to check these you can. Inside the box is the actual product. It comes in ...

Advantages: long lasting, caters to different skins Disadvantages: dries up if the compact is not tightly shut after each use
...On the other hand, the MAC range provides a good quality alternative to such hefty prices, whilst delivering the same result. UNBELIEVABLE! I hear you say...well give it a try.
The studio tech foundations come in a wide variety of colours which suit every culture, and being asian this is very important to me as my skin needs exactly the right shade of foundation to look anything near perfect. I also found that the formula is quite thick, therefore ... ...the base I need, whilst making a point to hide any blemish scars that decide to show their ugly head! haha! And didn't I find just that..Thanks MAC!
To all those MAC virgins..YOU SHOULD REALLY GIVE IT A TRY! I can assure you, you won't be let down :) ...

Thoroughly cleanse tone and moisturise your skin, clean and moisturised skin is the perfect base for foundation. If you want, you can use a primer (MAC produce their own 'prep and prime' skin primer, which has a hint of shimmer) to even out the skin tone and give an even silkier foundation base.
Using a foundation brush (I use MAC's 190 foundation brush), apply small amounts of ...

Advantages: (+) covers discolourations (+) no allergic reactions (+) great finish with brush or sponge Disadvantages: (-) Price (-) very heavy if not applied right
...sponge (I got mine from MAC - the website has the whole range) gives a great finish.
~ The MAC 187 brush gives the best finish; use sponges to blend hairline though.
~ Stud. Tech looks very dry/matte when powder is used on top - I personally wouldn't use powder on top for this very reason.
~ From experience of MAC foundations, this is one of the worst for heavy application - especially if you are 'heavy-handed'. The foundation looks like a mask, ... ...~ It will not smooth over bumps and blemishes, only cover them. However it DOES cover discolourations well.
~ No allergic reactions (please check if you buy this - I have no known allergies, anyway).
~ Great packaging for convenience - the compact is indestructible and no broken parts yet even after dropping it and being thrown around in the car glovebox!
Overall, great product and enjoyed using it. Some downsides but do not outweigh the good ...

...foundation and I found this MAC product, not too expensive but still from a respectable make like MAC. In the past I have not really bothered to use foundation or powder but after trying this foundation and realizing what a big difference it makes but yet so simple to use, makes me want to use it everyday. The downside with this product is if you have dry skin, then it will be noticable especially the t-zone. It is though very easy to avoid, just ... ...before applying the foundation. The most positive thing is that it is so easy to apply, with a brush or with a soft make-up pad. If you have a lot of spots you will have to use a concealer first because the foundation will not cover them by itself. ...

Advantages: Bright, dewey concealer, good for under eye circles Disadvantages: Expensive, difficult to get out of pot
. I bought the shade Medium 2.
This is a lovely peachy shade, and if I put it underneath my eyes it makes me look awake and brighter. It's a VERY thick consistency, but a little goes a long way. They provide a scoop as the pot is so tiny, but I use my fingers (sometimes it gets stuck in my nails which isn't so good, so it would be better if you had short nails!). It's got a very moist feeling so smoothes into skin well.
It's probably not so good at covering spots, because it is a brightening concealer you would probably need something a bit more like a MACstudiotech to concentrate on spots, but overall if you wear this under foundation it blends in really well. I also use it on the eyelid as an eyeprimer.
This was £18.50 and it seems like a lot for a tiny little pot, but like I said you only need a little bit. I have never ...
