You may call me a snob, but I hate cheap clothes. I would rather pay a little more for quality and know it will last. I had never been in Mackays as I have always been put off by the window displays. Often cheap frumpy lady’s clothes are displayed or tacky children’s fashion wear. I had decided that this shop was not for me. Well, that changed this week. I have been staying with my sister-in-law down in Cornwall. When we went to Bodmin shopping, she dragged me (under protest) into Mackays, bra shopping for her eldest daughter.

Mackays stock a wide selection of Ladies. There are bright fun-styled, from pretty dresses to embroidered jeans, in the Children’s wear clothes of a reasonable quality at very moderate prices. This shop also stocks a luxurious range of lingerie, including bras, knickers and even nightwear and Men’s clothes, including classic and fashion wear. These clothes are far from being old fashioned and much of the underwear seems of reasonable quality, (but you get what you pay for!). The children's clothes are not expensive either and there is a wide selection to choose, for both boys and girls alike.

Mackays is on a par with Woolworth, yet it seems to be a shop that sells better quality. It is not Marks and Spencer or John Lewis. It is great if for something new and different to the average boutiques, catering for all the family. The clothes seem to fit and the cuts are not for an unrealistic body shape. It is worth noting that many of the garments are in easy care fabrics, to save time on washing.

Some of Mackays clothes come up small compared to other makes; (in the Lady’s range) Sizes are a little conventional, with a limited range for the petit or ‘fuller-figure’ lady. My two nieces were happy with the lingerie that I brought for them. These items fitted perfectly and satisfied the most discerning of teenagers! (Shane did not want any items of clothing, so I am not altogether sure how accurate the Men's ranges is for sizing).

I compare Mackays to Woolworth, simply because it also stocks household products such as bed linen, cushions towels and many other linens.

**Refund**

Mackays sets out its return policy clearly. Mackays states: ‘Our exchange and return policy is an example of how confident we feel about our products and helps give you the confidence that we care’.

The stores seem well laid out and cater for mother with pushchair and also the disabled.

With over two hundred and fifty stores in the Britain there is bound to be a store in the local area. It is worth a visit and Mackays ways stocked with a great range, from work, rest or for play. There is something for all the family and you even may find that something you have been looking for ages! I did I brought a white denim jacket.

A good local shop to have!
Review of Mackays by lorriellah

Advantages: good selections
Disadvantages: not much choice for young adults

Mackays, or M&Co as it has re-branded itself has more than 300 stores across the UK and a really decent website. This is a clothes shop which offers good quality fashionable items for a reasonable price. The store includes sections for: Ladies fashion Mens fashion Teenage clothes (AKA Kylie) Baby clothes Underwear/nightwear Accessories The adult wear is mainly geared towards the middle aged market and the men's section is quite small compared ...
...fashionable at the time and there are always a wide variety. M&Co try to cater for a variety of customer with their petite range and their plus size section for women with a fuller figure. The teenage section has a lot of selection too with there being a section for teenage accesories as well separate to that for the adults. The baby wear department is good quality and good prices with t-shirts just costing from £2.95 which is a complete bargain ... Read review

Lovely for babies bad prices considering!!
Review of Mackays by bexxie

Advantages: Does that something a but different.
Disadvantages: Expensive for what you get.

I think Mackays is a lovely shop for buying babies clothes from although i have to say it is very expensive compared to the quality of other leading brands. It is great if you require something new and different to the average woolworths, debenhams types, but then you do have to pay a lot more money for something that you could buy two of somewhere else. It is about as costey as Marks and Spencers but is no where within the quality bracket!! The ...
...come up so small compared to the sizes, okay so i know that not every child is the same and it is just a rough guide but buying 12-18 months when my little girl was 5 months at the time took the biscuit. Overall i would recommend this shop if you want a coat or something different as it will be well made and presented but if you are after something economical then i would forget it. This shop also does womens clothes and lingerie these to seem ... Read review

Massive sale & competition in stores now.
Review of Mackays by rosierose

Advantages: Bargains to be had.
Disadvantages: Not a store in every town.

Mackays is a small department store usually based in town high streets. They are currently holding a massive summer sale in all their clothing departments. There are some really good bargains to be had. Read my experience to find out what I bought and how much it cost. Mackays are also running a competition in their ‘Kylie’ department throughout August, with the winner being announced in September 2003. There are three phases to the competition ...
...found the children’s clothes at Mackays to be very good value. The clothes never go out of shape or fall apart and the colours don’t fade. The sizes also come up generous. My daughter entered the Kyle competition whilst we were in the store, she had great fun trying on several outfits before selecting the one that she wanted to be photographed in. We also had a good laugh whilst she ‘posed’ for the photographer. I didn’t take advantage of the 10% ... Read review

You don't have to spend a fortune...
Review of Mackays by ally2kc

Advantages: Great prices for good clothes, great staff
Disadvantages: colour choices can be limited by season

...me when I go into Mackays is how friendly the staff always are no matter which store I visit. Mackays give people who don't have bottomless wallets (and lets face it, who of us do?) a chance to have their children looking smart and wearing clothes that can take a beating. They have a good selection of children's clothes although sometimes the colours are dictated by the seasonal trends too much - asis the same with most places. They have launched ...

Mackays the best kept secret on the high street
Review of Mackays by LIZZIEBE

Advantages: value for money stores,250 stores nationwide
Disadvantages: stores are not in large towns and hard to locate

I found Mackays 11yrs ago and have shopped there regularly ever since. They have many stores that are like small department stores and most are clean bright and attractive to shop in. The childrens clothes are great because they are unique to Mackays and you donot see them on every other child on the high street,we are always being asked where we buy the childrens clothes. The clothes on the ladies department are a mix of high fashion and classic,I ...
...outfit but have ended up in my local store and found just what i was looking for. The quality and value in my opinion cannot be beaten. They always have special offers ,Ilove thier two for £12 tshirts they wash and wash and never lose thier shape. Their underwear is so reasonable M&S eat your heart out the quality is just as good but at least £3 or £4 cheaper. On the rare occasion that i've had a problem they have done ever thing possible to ... Read review

VERY BORING OP - SORRY
Review of Peacocks (Shop) by  flashpointz

Advantages: good prices, wide range of items in stock, well laid out stores
Disadvantages: questionable quality at times

...The town that I live in is not exactly a metropolis of Shopping. We have the bare essentials - one of most types of shops (except far too many 'charity' shops and estate agents!) Until quite recently, if I was looking for a shirt, sweatshirt, jumper, pair of trousers, I'd have one option, a small menswear shop in a side street - Yes, it really is as dire as that! A similar situation, if you are a woman, except at least there is a small branch of 'New Look' in town and a Mackay's shop which is primarily for children. But now, at long last we have a 'new kid on the block' with the arrival of 'Peacocks' in town. OK So it's not exactly a designer outlet, but at least it means that you can go there on any day of the week (inc Sundays at the moment) and buy your casual clothing essentials. It is certainly good news for families 'on... Read review
