Mackays is a small department store usually based in town high streets. They are currently holding a massive summer sale in all their clothing departments. There are some really good bargains to be had. Read my experience to find out what I bought and how much it cost. Mackays are also running a competition in their ‘Kylie’ department throughout August, with the winner being announced in September 2003. There are three phases to the competition - store winner (who receives a clothes voucher) - regional winner - national winner. The overall winner receives a modelling contract to model Kylie clothes. To participate you must be aged between 9&15 years, you will need a parental/guardian signature on the entry form. The competition requires the girls to choose any outfit and accessories in the Kylie range, try it on, then model the outfit for the store photographer - simple! (there will then be the option to buy the outfit with a 10% discount). All photographs will be judged independently to determine the store winner.
DEPARTMENTS
SOFT FURNISHINGS - Small range of curtains, towels & cushions. MENS - Range of men’s clothes. WOMEN - Range of women’s clothes upto size 26. LINGERIE - Good range of underwear & nightwear. BABY MAC - Range for babies 0-12 months. KUTE - Girls 1-4 years. NAVIGATOR - Boys 1-4 years. RIVAL - Boys 9-14 years. KYLE - Girls 9-13+ years. KIDZ UNLIMITED - This is a new range aimed at 5-10 year old girls and boys.
MY EXPERIENCE
I have just managed to get some really good bargains in their massive sale. The following are just a few of them. Top aged 11 - £10 reduced to £3, Track pants aged 11 - £10 reduced to £2, Trousers aged 11 - £20 reduced to £5, Snowsuit aged 2-3yrs - £25 reduced to £5, Swimsuit aged 2 - £8 reduced to £4. The items in the sale are all very good quality, they are just the end of season or line. I have always found the children’s clothes at Mackays to be very good value. The clothes never go out of shape or fall apart and the colours don’t fade. The sizes also come up generous. My daughter entered the Kyle competition whilst we were in the store, she had great fun trying on several outfits before selecting the one that she wanted to be photographed in. We also had a good laugh whilst she ‘posed’ for the photographer. I didn’t take advantage of the 10% discount offered on the ‘models’ clothes because I had bought her enough in the sale. Whilst we were there some of the young girls and their parents were taking the competition very seriously. They had make-up on, hair done and had even bought several pairs of their own shoes in to match the outfits. I personally didn’t enjoy seeing this as I believe kids should be kept as kids for as long as possible. If you do go into a Mackays store this summer holidays with your daughter/granddaughter, I would recommend entering this competition as its good girly fun but don’t take it too seriously!
