Professional quality mixer on a budget

Advantages: Tough, affordable, high quality, low noise, versatile
Disadvantages: No sliding faders.

(NB I've revised this review in response for requests to include explanations of some of the more technical terms in the text for the benefit of anyone just starting out in audio. It's not my intention to patronise those already in the know) I bought this mixer for a little under £300 back in 2004. I had read a lot of favourable reviews in the various studio websites and magazines, most notably in Sound On Sound. I work from a PC with a 24-bit 10-channel soundcard and a pair of Mackie THX active monitors (professional studio speakers), but I was still getting a little noise in the system from my old Tascam digital Portastudio which had gone into retirement as a mixing desk. I needed a noise-free 12-channel mixer that could be configured conveniently to interconnect my PC audio inputs and outputs to my monitors. synthesizers ...

The core of any home studio

Advantages: Quality solid mixer with excellent preamps
Disadvantages: Manual doesn't offer computer to mixer connectivity help

I have owned my Mackie mixer for over a year and have enjoyed every minute with it. The build quality is absoloutley superb, it's a tank of a mixer with a host of connectivity options. The majority of home studio owners will no doubt want to hook up the mixer to an audio interface, in my case an EMU 1212m. Unfortunatley the extremely well written and informative manual doesn't give any help to hook up to a computer which is a glaring omission. The hook up diagrams for other setups in the manual don't help at all. Connectivity isn't too much of an issue once the signal paths are understood (however EMU users suffer even more frustration trying to get patchmix working correctly with everything else. If you are one of these people send me a mail and I will try and help). My setup has the OUTs of the soundcard going into channel 13 ...

Review of Mackie MS-1402 VLZ PRO

Mackies Smoothies are delicious AND absolutely healthy!

Advantages: Come in convenient squeeze up tubes, low in fat, 100% fruit,
Disadvantages: Too much packaging

In my opinion I haven't tasted a more delicious smoothie than Mackies smoothies! On the health aspect they are 100% fruit so are absolutely healthy aswell and make refreshing snacks. They are also low fat, less than 0.5g each. Flavours are: Blueberry and Raspberry (which has45 calories per smoothie) and my personal favourite Mango and Orange (which has 47 calories per smoothie). They come ready to eat in squeeze up tubes. You could give them to your children or eat them all yourself without needing a spoon or cup. I love these smoothies and I think they are a great snack or dessert in hot weather or even just on a normal day. They are really nice frozen but also just as nice when they are not frozen. ...
