Advantages Advantages Top sound quality, physical design, optional subwoofer

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None as yet!

A fantastic speaker! I use two of these mainly for my band and have found them to sound exceptional for the price. They have a really wide dispersion meaning that everyone in the room can hear the highs, as well as the lows, which believe me are not lacking from what you may thing is a small 12" speaker. I have also used the SRM450s as floor monitors at other events, thanks to their wedge design when layed on their side. The SRM450 is fairly weighty, but easy to put up and take down on your own. The speaker has multiple carrying points and even flying points! One think to watch for is that the ... more

Advantages Advantages Very versitile, sounds good

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some may find it heavy

The Mackie SRM450 is an extremely versatile speaker. It has the advantage of built in amplifiers, together with thermal and overload protection. I run a hire firm, pa2hire.co.uk, and we like these for several reasons - for one, they are difficult to damage, you can't overdrive them very easily as the limiter kicks in. Secondly, they have excellent sonic characteristics. We also use d&b Q7 and HK concert touring (contour) speakers, these are far more expensive, but the Mackie SRM450's stand up surprisingly well - especially at moderate volumes. The more expensive speakers sound a little more hi ... more

5 Stars Quick review of Mackie SRM450 by salsabloke 18/01/2009
We have had the SRM 450s for almost 3 yrs now . we run a monthly salsa night in a fairly big social club . thay are fantastic for what we do ,together with our CDJ 200 and DJM 600 mixer, they are LOUD with good sound . we only have to have the mixer on half volume and its way loud enough ( pushing the clubs sound level meter to the red ). being active it cuts down on carrying seperate amps etc . still look like new . we are very happy with the SRM 450's

Advantages Advantages Compact, punchy and clear

Disadvantages Disadvantages If they ever break down, probably tricky to fix

In working within the PA business, as well as playing in bands, I stayed away from many things, but two near the top of the list were 1. Active speakers and 2. Mackie products. Active stuff gives you headaches; they are (were?) less reliable and the convenience of everything in one box becomes a nightmare when they go wrong - anyone who had to fault find and fix old actives will know how it was. Mackie used to produce very much run-of-the-will stuff and jacked the price up and hid behind their "Made in America" tag to justify it. Their old desks were barely better than what Behringer were ... more

This speaker immerses you in the sound, you feel a part of whatever you're doing with it. Not only are you taking aback by it's cutting-edge design but its performance also. I personally use it with my Korg Trinity, a match made in heaven.
