Advantages: Great for baby to walking, wider, studier, taller but still with great manoeuvrability. Disadvantages: Hood is a bit lightweight and can get in the way when seat is fully reclined
I have had Maclaren buggies since my son was 6 months old. My son is now just over 3 years and I have a 10 month old daughter. My last Maclaren was the techno xt which I have just swapped for the xlr for a number of reasons:
1. The xlr is bigger so can hold either my son or daughter comfortably. It is wider so my son is not squashed in and there is a lot more headroom. Although it is wider it is still narrow enough.
... ...and the same as any Maclaren easy to fold and therefore store.
6. It's VERY stable, I can hang a baby bag packed full off things on the back and it remains so.
7. It's very comfortable, with the padded seat cover on it my little girl loved it and snuggled in to it happily for a nap, whilst my three year old son stated that it was his, as it was so comfortable and fitted him.

1. The xlr is bigger so can hold either my son or daughter comfortably. It is wider so my son is not squashed in and there is a lot more headroom. Although it is wider it is still narrow enough.
2. Its weight limit is a lot higher than most lightweight buggies at well over 20kgs which once again means that I can use it for both children, plus it also fits a car seat if needed.
3. The hood extends with a nifty zip, so when you recline your baby the sun protection is still offered. This is also great for creating a darker environment for your baby to sleep. This is a great feature.
4. It is pricier than a lot of the buggies but it comes with all the extras you need including the foot muff, the padded seat cover and the rain cover, so although you pay slightly more you don't need to buy extras.
5. It's very light and the same as any Maclaren easy to fold and therefore store.

8. The brakes are easy to put on and off and are very good even on buses.
9. It is a very manoeuvrable buggy and you have the option to lock the front wheels in place.
The downside, I have as of yet not managed to find a buggy with no downsides, but so far with this buggy I have found four:
1. The hood that stretches from the back of the buggy up and over is of thin material, so when you recline the buggy if you put things in the pockets on the back, the hood ends up touching your little ones head, this would not be an issue for a small baby, but for a larger one (my 10 month old is wearing 12 - 18 month old clothes) it is a bit irritating, although it doesn't seem to bother her.
2. They have made the buggy lighter and as part of this they have made the wheels of plastic and it's not the best over uneven terrain such as loose shingle.
3. The buggy is high, I have the handles on the lowest setting and find this comfortable (I am 5ft 9) and don't need to use the raised handles.
4. As with the techno xt space is limited under the buggy and pretty much inaccessible when the seat is fully reclined.
Overall I am delighted with this buggy as it is means that I can use it for either of my children. Shade is offered from the hood when they are sitting up or lying down, so I don't need a parasol (which is a huge bonus, as when I used a parasol on a buggy with my son once he got to over one all he did was play with it until it broke). It comes with all the additional extras as standard and is suitable from birth (reclining positions, head support) to lots older. Oh and I would give this buggy four and a half stars!
Advantages: one of the best maclarens.. light weight easy to push Disadvantages: the brakes arent excellent

Advantages: Fantastic travel system and buggy and car seat duo Disadvantages: None
Maclaren XLR with Recaro profi plus car seat.
Amazing buggy and amazing car seat. If you can ignore the diabolical colours Maclaren have chosen. And their diabolical marketing and sales strategy. However I am assured their service and after sales is excellent.
We got a 2006 version in standard Techno grey thank god, I certainly would not push my baby around in the brown/pink or cream orange combinations.
RECARO Car seat - this is a top notch car ... ...at its highest length. MACLAREN BUGGY
Fab buggy, wins all reviews as based on Techno XT. Has head hugger, soft liner, strap wraps, apron and leg rest. Basket is big enough but inaccessible when baby lies flat. The soft liner makes collapsing the buggy harder so I never used it, bought a sheepskin liner instead. Buggy weights are a must to stop the buggy tipping over when you hang change bag over handles. (Blooming marvellous).
Excellent lie flat ...

Advantages: Lays flat, sun protection in hood, sturdy, looks good Disadvantages: Small amount of storage, rain cover doesnt cover hood
I bought the Maclaren XLR when my daughter reached 18 months as she was too big for her pram and I wasnt keen on the smaller umbrella buggys. What first attracted me to the buggy was the colour and design I thought it look very stylish and alot nicer than the brighter pinks and flowery ones that are on the market. I was also attracted to the SPF 50 protection that the hood provides as I was going abroad shortly after buying it so was a big plus point. ... ...in use occassionally now (my daughter is 3 years 3 months so does more walking now) I liked the way it lays flat and so is really cosy for them to sleep in and also the foot muff and lovely lining really make it that much warmer in the winter. The buggy folds down really easily with the push of a lever and clips together and has a handle to carry it along. It is still quite bulky in comparision to an umbrella buggy but it is a much wider and taller ...
