All the time I have been living with Craig (around 9 years now) I have used Maclean’s toothpaste, some of you will no doubt have gathered by now that I am very much a creature of habit and when I find something I like I tend to stick with it, boring I know but it suits me!
So what is it I like about Macleans in general?
A few years ago McLean’s brought out a brand new Whitening toothpaste that claimed to use a stain prevention chemical system which restores the natural whiteness of your teeth along with killing bacteria which incidentally has also been proven by watchdog tests. And Macleans are also accredited by the British Dental Association.
So does it work?
Craig and I have been on/off smokers for years now (although pleased to say at the moment I am a non smoker) and in my opinion it does make your teeth appear noticeably cleaner, not a sparkling white but a slightly lighter shade of ivory/white and after using for a period of a few months I also noticed a certain sparkle about my teeth, so for me this was great news.
And according to a study carried out by the British Dental Journal there are only two toothpastes that contain they correct chemicals to produce a whitening effect and yes Macleans Whitening is one of them yeay!
So what about the taste?
Following application of a small pea amount of the blue gel onto my toothbrush I found it to taste minty and very refreshing, it does leave a tingly feeling following brushing but not too overpowering just enough to remind you of a fresh clean nice tasting mouth and possibly even your breath, leaving an overall hygienic dentist feeling.
So how long does it last?
Well obviously as soon as you have something to eat or drink as with any mouthwash, Craig in particular drinks lots of coffee throughout the day which stains his teeth and makes him feel as if his breath is not quite as fresh, although because he uses Macleans regurlary, well three times daily following breakfast, lunch and dinner, it helps to keep staining minimal, overall less damage which even our dental hygienist has commented on.
What about the Cost?
It comes in either pump action tube which does cost slightly more for example 100ml is around the £3.00 mark and the regular 100ml good old squeezable tube is around the £1.99 mark, so quite a difference in price there, but again Boots quite regularly do offers like 3 for 2 which can save over the course of the year and I find a 100ml tube to last around 2 months or so, very reasonable in comparison to other brands. The packaging is a very simple silver/grey but you will spot the logo Macleans as it quite distinctive.
Concerns about Fluoride??
Yes too much fluoride is bad for you, especially in young children, although some toothpaste brands contain too much fluoride I am pleased to say that Macleans are not one of those brands and seem to get the balance just right.
Some other general information:
Macleans was set up by a New Zealander named Alex Maclean (obviously) back in 1919, he went onto launch the first ever whitening toothpaste that went by the name of Macleans Peroxide (sounds painful) Toothpaste in 1927 and I think you will all agree it’s went on to become pretty successful ever since then!
For further information about Macleans and their products go to www.macleans.co.uk
Macleans also do lots of other products in the dental range including mouthwash, fresh mint, 40+, milk teeth for young kids, cool mint to name but a few but for now I’ll stick with whitening cause simply it works for me what about you??
Thanks for reading and I look forward to your comments, take care Heather:o)
Advantages: really whitens teeth is used regularly, fresh feeling, fluoride action, stain prevention Disadvantages: a bit expensive, not suitable for children under 6,unless supervised by adult
...and a frequent user of Macleans whitening toothpaste,I do have a bit to say about the product and it's good and(bad) sides.
Positive:
1 It's an excellent toothpaste, which unlike strong mint or baking soda toothpastes, tastes gentle and mild.
2. It helps to restore natural whiteness which is different to bleaching. The effects of bleaching may not always result in the elegant "natural" whiteness.Your teeth might look too white and can be sensitive ... ...or simply stains. When I used Macleans 3-4 times a day ,my teeth looked rather whiter. But of course you have to maintain using it.
3 It gently removes tough stains: Things like coffee, wine, smoking do cause teeth staining,or sometimes if you use some mouthwashes like corsodyl or chlorexidine too often, they can cause teeth staining.Macleans whitening toothpaste does help remove the stains,in my case it was mainly coffee stains.
4 As on the tube,it ...

...best cleaning abilities it is Macleans Whitening. In my eyes it won hands down, this has also been confirmed in the back of my mind with watchdog tests revealing the same thing. So why Macleans Whitening? Cleaning:
I find the cleaning ability consistent, after brushing my teeth they appear noticeable cleaner and of a lighter shade while not being too abrasive against the enamel. After a few months of using the same toothpaste I found a sustained ... ...not cleaned the teeth properly. Macleans Whitening seems to strike that hygienically clean feel balance. Cost:
For a brand it is very competitively priced especially compared to Pearl Drops or Boots Whitening system. Longevity:
The taste goes as soon as soon as you drink or eat, but if used with a good mouth wash by the time you next brush your teeth it should be easier to clean them as Macleans Whitening utilises a stain prevention chemical system. ...

...If you use Macleans Whitening toothpaste it won’t be long before you see the results and it’s only when you don’t use it and replace do you realise just how good Macleans Whitening toothpaste is. I also recommend this toothpaste for anyone who smokes since it will keep you teeth whiter. I know a few of my friends who smoke who have yellow teeth but I haven’t told them how ‘ugly’ their teeth look. Maybe I should?

It does a brilliant job keeping your teeth clean against tooth decay and removing bacteria but also keeps them white. I would recommend this toothpaste, brush twice a day and say goodbye to yellow teeth and you’re teeth will be better for it. ...

...difference since I started using Macleans whitening toothpaste, about 6 months ago. This could also be due to the fact I have recently started using an electric toothbrush. The toothpaste comes in a metallic looking tube and tastes very strong and minty. The active ingredients are sodium fluoride and triclene (the ingredient to whiten your teeth). It is not recommended for use on children under the age of 7. The toothpaste claims to help restore ... ...I will continue to use macleans whitening however as I feel it is good for my teeth. Advantages: Whitens your teeth Disadvantages: the price maybe
...too; I am referring to Macleans whitening of course.
When I first bought this toothpaste from the shop, I nearly fell over at the price of it, £3.49 if my memory serves me rightly, all I thought was it had better work, and lo and behold it did! And well. I like to drink black coffee and occasionally red wine, (That sounds like a TV commercial doesn’t it?) a guaranteed tooth discolourer, so I needed a paste that would bring the whiteness back ... ...toothpaste is a rarity, so that’s another plus point, it does all the usually things like – helps prevent cavities, fights tartar and all that other stuff. So for me Macleans whitening is an all round winner!
Shame about the cost though, but then what price vanity?

Reviews which might be of interest for "Macleans Whitening"
I am writing this review of Macleans Whiteing toothpaste because of something I discovered a few months ago. I looked in the mirror and noticed that my teeth were decidedly dingy, and wondered what I could d about it. As I am a receptionist in a rather upmarket finance house, I need to smile all the time, so it is important that my smile looks good. My best friend has always had lovely white sparkly teeth, so I asked for her advice. She told me that she always used MacleansTooth Whitener, and, like me, had once had teeth that were off-white, but after using Macleans Tooth whitener, her teeth got whiter and whiter. I was a bit sceptical at first, I couldn't believe that any toothpaste could actually whiten teeth, but after trying it for a couple of days, my teeth were white!! Not only white, but sparkling too. My breath tasted ...
Advantages: cheap, nice taste, seems to works Disadvantages: none
Since giving up smoking, I always keep an eye out for any toothpaste that claims it whitens your teeth. One of these products is Macleans toothpaste.
Packaging
This product comes in the usual cardboard box which is silver with the Macleans logo written on it. Inside, the toothpaste comes in a bog standard tube which again is silver is colour with red detail on it. The lid to the toothpaste screws on and off and is therefore very easy to use.
Cost
I buy this product from Tesco's and quite often it is on some sort of special offer which is usually buy 2 for £3.00 which works out at £1.50 per tube which I think is reasonable considering it is a brand name and its also a whitening product.
Extra Info About This Product
The packaging clearly states that this product is no to be used by anyone under the age of 7 years old. You are ...
Advantages: Effective, and helps to restore teeth whiteness. Disadvantages: Takes at least a month before it shows any effect, and results are very gradual.
I am loving this at the moment, because I have started to see results from using this toothpaste.
Special features:

This contains a unique triclene formula with whitening micro-particles. As well as helping to protect against plaque and decay it also has an enamel protection system. It whitens by breaking up, lifting away and preventing stains.
Use:
*****
As with normal toothpaste, just regular twice a day brushing with a small amount on the toothbrush. The packaging does actually advise on continuously using this for at least 28 days before any effects take place.
This also has quite a nice fresh minty flavour to it, and doesn't seem to foam very much, though it doesn't really affect the brushing experience in a negative way.
