First off a trip to NYC is not complete wihout a visit to Macys, Its a shoppers paradise. This store is the biggest department shop in the world so you may need to set a few hours aside to cover everything depending on how you like to shop.
The shop is on West 34th street and is a short stroll to the shops of 5th ave and the empire state building, its almost opposite madison square gardens and again about a ten minute walk to Times square and the theatre district. The subway is also across the street so it easy to find and get to.
Depending on which entrance you use depends on what department you enter the store. All cosmetics are on ground floor with all the well known names, MAC, BENEFIT, DIOR, etc at a fraction of the UK cost and from my own experience cheaper than the duty free at airorts. Ladies bags are also located here with makes such as GUESS, LOUIS VUITTON amoungst others, again cheaper than the UK.
Access by escelator to all other floors is here. Floors are split into 2 almost with ladies one side gents the other. Womens and mens is located on the first and second floors, this is classic wear and has the usual designers, Calvin Klien, Guess, DKNY, Ralph etc (men and women). This are the latest fashion and with the good exchange rate they are very cheap. The third floor is young women which is almot full of jeans and shoes of every make possible, its split up into make sections with guess, dkny etc. There are also more cosmetics here for the younger girl. 4th Floor is childrens and baby wear again many makes and the floor is not split up girls and boys are mixed together.
I cant exactly remember whats on the other floors but in the basement there is mens socks and underware as well as a home and kitchen section, with a small electronics department (things here can be found cheaper around NY) There is also a floor with home ware such as beds, sheets and curtains.
Macys has extra facilites such as a restraunt in the basement which always seemed full, next to here was a number of food stands to buy chocolates, here was also the gift wrap section which was nice as a little treat to wrap your gifts.
There is a starbucks, another coffee shop, Ben and Jerrys Ice cream, Pizza cafe, Pretzel stand and Macdonalds all worth a visit if your on the floor and feeling tired.
If you are not from NY you can go to the visitors centre on the 1st floor, show them some I.D and they will give you an 11% discount card which can be used on anything apart from cosmetics.
Staff here are very helpful and are willing to help you get sizes and will direct you in any way then can. There are lots of tills around each floor so you dont have to wait long in a que with your purchases. Staff also often have a chat, esspecialy to out of towners. As I mentioned it can get very hot and stuffy in the store so they have a coat check in the basement, leave your coats and bags while you browse its very safe and secure, its also free! I just left a tip to say thanks.
The shop is open from 9 am till 9 pm except on a sunday when it opens slightly later.
