Edward, John

Advantages: A follow on from the tv show
Disadvantages: n/a

If you have ever wondered how a psychic medium takes to having their gift it is a must read. This takes you through him developing his gift, begining the readings privately, begining the television show. Anything that means something is said in the book, he's trying to let you in on his feelings about his job. He takes you through the biased life that he lives, from believers and non believers. He tells us of what he has learned from the people ...
...by September 11th disaster. His book I feel is truthful, touching and true. He tries to teach us that we do infact need to keep love our loved ones that have passed, validate that they are still with us, and keep that love going. People that i know that have lossed a loved one, I lend them the book. Most people it helps them with the grieving process. Of course there are people that just dont validate it but I still think that it helps them a little. ...

A Vodka and Tonic Is Not A Proton Pack!

Advantages: well written and informative, not preach-y or patronising when discussing God and heaven.
Disadvantages: the odd daft comment from Roz, although dismissable since she's new to it all I suppose.

...What? *looks innocent* While Mia's picture and name are displayed very prominently across the cover of the book, you do catch at the bottom in smaller type 'with Rosalyn Chissick'. Now, I doubt I'd know Rosalyn Chissick if I fell over her. But as well as being the student in this wee adventure, she's apparently also written a couple of novels and has contributed to a Marian Keyes collaboration with other authors (don't worry, even I know who Marian ...
...is determined to discover whether Mia's reputation is founded, and if she is 'the real deal'. As Mia is speaking to Roz about herself, her first psychic experience at 22, and her views on life and how she believes everybody has the same ability as she does, but just don't have the 'tools' or knowledge on how to use it or develop it. Quite unexpectedly (for them both!), Roz asks Mia to teach her to be psychic and since Mia feels that Roz has a genuine ...

bandcamp vs Derek Acorah! Not really...

Advantages: Amusing at times, interesting topic, different areas covered and explained a bit
Disadvantages: bit selective with research, Derek Acorah fans - look away now

...me tell you! But Will Storr is a journalist, and I don't really like journalists. Giving the book the quick once-over I notice that it's listed as 'Travel' on the back (no doubt due to the fact that Storr was traipsing around England, visiting the Vatican, and nipping over to Philadelphia the odd time) and had lots of positive endorsements on the front ranging from the Big Issue to Danny 'friend of Dave Gorman' Wallace. Okay, fair enough. I'll give ...
...all the quotes and conversations will be fairly accurate. Probably. Although his chapter on his experience with 'Most Haunted' was quite entertaining, and just confirmed my suspicions about the programme itself and of Derek Acorah. Like a good wee boy avoiding a lawsuit, though - what Storr experiences he just shares with us, he doesn't say outright that the show and it's 'medium' are faked. He lets us say it ourselves. + CONCLUSION + Since Mum ...

An excellent Tarot set

Advantages: Interesting, nicely designed, bargain price
Disadvantages: None except the stigma that comes with them and people not being told the truth

...of 78 specially designed, authentic tarot cards. The box is a shiny cardboard one and the lid slips on and lifts off easily. When you open it you are met with a pack of tarot cards in a "fancy carton" made with cardboard and a nice book the same purple as the cover is also right next to it. There is a little plastic part inside which is also purple, it holds the cards and book. On the back it says that "in the past" the secrets of the Tarot were ...
...treat yourself to this superb Tarot set and read the cards for yourself. It tells you to ask the cards your questions on love and life and that if you do, they will provide all the answers you are seeking. Clearly explained and packed with useful information, it then goes onto say "this excellent kit will help you understand the meanings behind each Tarot card, allowing you to use your intuition to interpret what has happened in the past, what is ...

An encyclopaedia of the weird and the incredible

Advantages: Varied, professionally compiled, full of fascinating accounts
Disadvantages: At over 25 years old its a little dated

First published way back in 1982, 'Mysteries of the Unexplained' is a weighty 300-page tome of encyclopaedic proportions that brings together recorded cases of bizarre and unexplained events from old historical documents and modern newspaper reports to create an exhastive archive of all that is weird and implausible. Accounts of every paranormal and supernatural phenomenon known to man are recounted here, from ancient prophecies, terrifying visions ...
...spontaneous human combustion, inexplicable crime cases and unexplained disappearences of people and things, such as the enigma of the Bermuda Triangle and the vanishing of the crew of the Marie Celeste, as well as numerous less well known cases. There is an entire chapter given over to strange creatures and monsters of all forms, including the Loch Ness Monster, giant sea monsters glimpsed by sailors down through the centuries, sightings of the Yeti ...
