Nespresso refer to the Magimix as the Pelican. This is due the large opening jaw at the front into which the pods are inserted. The machine is mainly chrome with the jaw a contrasting black. The glass water tank holds 1.2ltr and is situated at the back of this machine. This is easily re-filled through the top and can equally easily be removed for washing.

My most preferred drink is a latte, but it has to be prepared and presented correctly to make it so. It has to be just the correct temperature; layered with steamed milk, coffee and topped with frothed milk. This is not so easy to achieve. Over the years, I have used different machines in my quest to make my own but have never been really satisfied. Until now, that is!!!
As a surprise present (and it was a complete surprise – I never suspected a thing) from my family, I received the Nespresso Magimix M200. The great advantages of the machine are that it is so easy to use achieving perfect results with relative ease and it looks very stylish in an unusual sort of way.
The machine operates on the Nespresso Pod System. There are nine coffee blends, “with a richness, subtlety of aromas and smoothness of crema to delight even the most discerning palate”, available in pods distinguished by different coloured pods and names (Risretto, Arpeggio, Roma, Decaffeinato Intenso, Livanto, Capriccio, Volluto, Cosi and Decaffeinato) . You simply chose the one of your preference (mine is the Roma): switch on the machine; insert the pod into the jaw and close (2 backlit controls enable you to programme the amount of coffee you desire either small or large cup); push down the lever until it locks; put a cup (for espresso or cappuccino) or jug for latte under the jaw; when for the green light to become constant then pull the lever at the top of the jaw forwards to the cup position and watch the rich dark liquid trickle downwards. Once the coffee is poured return the lever to its neutral position and the old capsule is disposed of tidily in a nifty bin at the back. An electronic warning system will sound when the bin needs emptying.
To make the latte or cappuccino, there is a steam nozzle on the right-hand side of the machine. This has a nineteen bar pump pressure and a four holed nozzle meaning that the milk can be steamed and frothed effortlessly (no having to listen for the right sound, or moving the jug up and down and round and around).
The most important thing with any coffee machine is of course the quality of the drink it makes. I have so far made espressos, cappuccinos and lattes all of which have been exquisite.
The machine comes complete with 40 pods of different strengths enabling you to try each one to find your preference and two espresso cups and saucers. Each pod holds a perfectly measured amount of pre-ground coffee sealed to lock in the freshness and flavor until it is released by the espresso machine.
As I said, the Nespresso Magimix was a surprise Christmas present so I have no idea how much my family paid but searches on the internet have identified prices ranging from £180 to £299. Nespresso has a comprehensive website www.nespresso.com from which pods and other accessories can be purchased. My daughter also bought me two Nespresso latte glasses and spoons and additional pods (which were even delivered to my house and I still did not suspect).
I love the machine and recommend it highly. It is unbelievably easy to use; produces great results: easy to clean (just wipe the steam nozzle and empty the bin) and looks really impressive. There is a two-year service warranty when purchasing giving extra reassurance to its durability. The only downfall with the machine is that the pods are exclusive to Nespresso and have to be ordered directly from them either by phone, post or over the internet (delivery is 24 hours). They are not expensive about 20 p a pod but the mere fact the company has a monopoly over their purchase is slightly annoying.

Quick review of Magimix Nespresso M200
Fantastic machine simply and easy to use, coffee cartons a little expensive but makes a wonderfull tasting coffee. Memories of pâvement cafes in France come flooding back. Product could be a little cheaper sold in France for 129 Euros here in Britain with a lower VAT it should be on a par. But sells for around 128-148 GBP. All coffee carton are sent by post when requested.
Slight fault after some use the water container leeks. ...

Advantages: Brill flavour, easy to use, perfect consistent results every time Disadvantages: None
...the bullet and bought the Magimix M200C with auto frother device. If you are looking for a machine that is easy to use, produces consistent results time after time, is a breeze to clean and gives you that perfect taste ala barista in coffee chain, then this machine is for you. I've had about 4 other brand machines in search of my perfect brew. None of them come anywhere close to this machine. In terms of price, yes, there are cheaper machines on ... ...Cappucino afficionado's out there the Magimix M200 C machine comes with a nifty frothing device (again I've had numerous 'so called' frothing devices over the years, and again this one beats them all). A genius piece of engineering means that a little rubber tube goes into your milk bottle and then a selector dial selects between latte and cappucino. Put your cup under the spout, switch over to frothing mode, and 30 seconds later, perfectly frothed ...

Advantages: Neat, clean, very easy to use and produces a great expresso or cappuccino. Disadvantages: Uses nespresso capsules only.
I have always loved a cup of fresh coffee but usually settled for an instant one because getting out the coffee maker and then cleaning it afterwards was a bit of a chore for one cup.
Then whilst on the look out for a new one (the glass jug on mine was cracked) I was intrigued by a new stylish coffee maker being demonstrated in a local department store.
Although it cost quite a bit more than the one I may have bought, I fell in love with the ease ... ...variety of blends at any one time without having to waste almost a full bag of ground coffee because I didn't use it all before it went off.
Quite simply, you plug it in, fill up the water container and switch it on. About a minute later when the light stops flashing you insert a capsule of your favourite blend, put a cup under the nozzle and pull forward the lever to fill the cup.
Should you want hot milk, you flick another switch, place the frother ...

Advantages: Looks Good Disadvantages: Not great coffee, murder to keep clean.
will get a good shot for the first 24 hours of the bag being opened. After that, you will struggle to get a decent crema or taste.
I have tried everything, from buying top of the range pre-ground to grinding my own beans in a mid-range burr grinder. Nothing could get satisfactory results with this machine. No amount of variation in the grind or tamp made an improvement. I swore lots, and wasted lots of beans on producing dirty water.
No complaints about the steamer nozzle, it was easy to produce a jug of milk at the right density with minimum fuss.
Overall, I wouldn't recommend this machine to anyone. As well as the points above, it's also very noisy (the all-metal construction rattles and rattles, more so if you use the "cup warming plate" on top!).
I expected better from the "inventors of the espresso". I now have a MagimixM ...
