The standard round hose pipe on a reel with wheels. It kinks and twists and it takes two people to wind it back onto the reel and then finding somewhere to store it because their quite bulky.
The springy one was great to start with, then it just stopped springing back. So i was left with a long over stretched hose with no place to store.
Then one day i was flicking through the thousands of tv channals we have these days (only about 10 useful) and i saw the Magna Flat Hose.
Price was £22.95 from QVC
What caught my eye was some huge truck ontop of the hose and the water was still coming out impressive or what. (am i easily
impressed or what)
So 3 days after ordering my Magna Hose it arrives in a cardboard box. Quickly opening the box and getting out my 75 foot hose i was suprised how light it was.
In the box were:- 1. Instructions, 1. 75ft Magna Hose, 2. knobs, 1. washer use for female connector, 1. six pattern nozzle.
The instructions are very basic with diagrams and a brief how to. The knobs are pressed into a hole on each side of the hose reel. These are used to wind in the hose. The washer is placed inside the hose connector that attaches to the tap to create a water tight seal. The connecter will only fasten onto a tap with a screw end. If you dont have one like this you can buy a connector to convert your tap to accommadate this for about a couple of pounds.
The six pattern nozzle is easy to use, you hold it like a gun squeeze the lever and water is released from the nozzle. There is an arrow on the nozzle and the six spray settings are wrote on the nozzle head, rotate until desired setting is aligned with the arrow.
The six spray settings are :-
Cone. Water is quite gentle not to powerful, good for rinsing car.
Jet. This one is powerful, good for washing patios and cars.
Shower. Water is gentle, good for watering tubs and hanging baskets.
Flat. Quite powerful, use like a water sweep to move dirt off patio or car.
Mist. Very fine, good for using on delicate plants and flowers.
Soaker. Not powerful, but alot of water comes out good for tubs and hanging baskets.
The hose reel has a built in handle, hold onto this with one hand and the water gun in the other. With the hose connected to the tap walk to where you want to use the hose. The hose will come out from the back of the reel as you walk. Only half of the hose comes out of the back, the other half comes out from the front of the reel. To get this out you pull it out using your hands. The reason half the hose comes out the back and half out the front is they are stored on seperate wheels within the reel. Think this is a good idea as it keeps the reel more compact.
The hose is made of a polymer and feels like a plastic it does bend but not as much as a round hose. The polymer coating protects three smaller hoses inside that the water travels along, then merge as one in the nozzle. Maybe this is what gives the hose pipe its strength.
Winding the hose pipe back onto the reel is very easy, each side of the reel has a knob ,wind each one around. One winds the back hose in and the other winds the front hose in.
Other good poinst about the Magna hose is you can have it at any length and the water still comes out, other flat hoses have to be fully unwound. You do not have to drain the water out of the hose once finished using.
Cannot say how long this hose will last last as i have only had it a few weeks and not used much yet. But i am pleased with the results so far. i will update the review if i come across any problems over the summer months, (if we get a summer).
Thanks for reading.
Update ********* Now this hose has had a full summer includind a fair bit of heatwave weather an update is required.
After about 2 months use the lever on the water gun broke. It seems to be connected to the water gun with some sort of rubbery material, this seems to have melted in the sun. To replace was a nightmare as the hose connection is a totally differant shape to any other hoses. So i had to cut an old hose round not flat add a stop connector to each end and a screw in adapter into flat hose to be able to use the hose again.
Next problem was it became very difficult to pull the hose out, at first you just walked along and it unwound. After about two months of use you have to give it a hard tug to get it moving.
Winding it in also became difficult. The little handle that you use keeps popping out of the hole it is attached too, causing a few scrapes on my knuckles. Even after draining the hose of all the water i was still unable ti wind the last 4 feet in.
What started out to be the best hose i've owned has now turned into the worst. Hope nobody bought this hose on my original review.
