The Eye of the Needle is the best selling novel from the pen of author Ken Follett. The novel was written in 1977 and became an international best seller. Ken Follett had written other novels, but The Eye of The Needle was his first major success.
I am reviewing the paperback edition of the book, ISBN 78-0330354295. Cover price £7.99.
The cover depicts the rear view of a man watching a remote house, silhouetted against a stormy sky. The cover is enigmatic and mysterious, that in conjunction with the jacket blurb and knowledge of another novel by the author, is what encouraged me to buy the novel.

Advantages: Great location and great views! Disadvantages: Coach loads of schoolkids!
For our first full day on the Isle of Wight, we decided to do a lap of the Island to see what was out there and to basically have a look around as well. We had a few leaflets that we took with us from the Premier Travel Inn to ensure that we knew where we were heading and what we would see. The one thing that my other half and I did agree on was that we should definitely visit The Needles Park.
This place has one big selling point; it is located at the furthest point on the West side of the Isle of Wight at Alum Bay. This not only gives spectacular views of the Needles and the Lighthouse but also some picturesque views of the Dorset coast as far away as Swanage. So if you are a photographer you will have some great opportunities to take some good shots as well as spend the day walking the area, something that I will touch upon later ...

One of the most amusing books I have ever read is "21 dog years, My life @ Amazon.com", by Mike Davies, obviously based around working at Amazon.com in Seattle. Mike is a call centre drone and the book tells of such things as his obsession with stealing office stationery - regardless of its usefulness, and one story where he crashed an office work party at the Space Needle. Although its probably not the first time I had come across the Space Needle its the first time that it sunk into my conscious as somewhere I wanted to visit. I like a tall building and I like a bit of travel (in case you hadn't noticed..) and so the Space Needle had been hovering at the back of my travel thoughts for a while and since its now just down the road (OK, so its four hours from Vancouver) I headed down to Seattle.
