Advantages Advantages Reasonable kitchen, helpful installers willing to fix all snag issues

Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive, poor communication at times, work overran slightly, chasing up required

INTRODUCTION I bought my flat a couple of years ago, and I have always intended to do up the bathroom and kitchen. The bathroom is a mess and the kitchen has always looked a bit "tired", with 70s fittings and no cabinet space on the wall, ensuring that my work surfaces were always covered with junk. So finally, I got around to doing something about it. Having read a few of the previous reviews they mostly seem to be either quick reviews by satisfied customers or rants by one who've been ripped off. I aim here not so much to tell you what I bought, as the specific products themselves are much ... more

Advantages Advantages good quality build of units

Disadvantages Disadvantages lack of communication, lack of workmen!

To start with, I couldn't fault Magnet. The salesman was really helpful and gave the impression that he understood my situation. (I have back problems and my mother who lives with me is disabled). I chose the Faro range as it looked nice and was within my budget. I have a fairly small kitchen and the design came up with 4 small wall units (500mm at most) as well as 1 corner base unit, 1000mm base unit, and a 600mm sink unit. I had asked for a slimline dishwasher (purposely to try and make our life simpler). The price as I remember was £5800, unfortunately I went on a day that the computers ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Dreadful service and poor quality units

Last year we were fortunate enough to be able to build a new extension to our home and incorporate our dream kitchen. Unfortunately we chose Magnet and that dream turned into a nightmare. The problems began the day we first arranged to see a kitchen designer. Our appointment was for 10am but Magnet rang to say we were double booked and asked us if we could come at 11am instead. We said OK, but when we got there no one was expecting us at all. How we wish we'd walked out there and then. We were made to feel very unwelcome and this was borne out when we received the order for checking after our ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Rude, impersonal service

Having decided to buy a new kitchen in the january sales, I put together a shortlist of stores to visit. Geographically, Magnet (Villiers Road, Kingston upon Thames) came first and were advertising 50% off and a further 10% discount for the first week. Great! So we went in, had a look around and decided to chat to a designer about a layout and a quote. This is where the problem began. This man was rude and downright snobby. He asked for our budget. I told him £1500 to £2000. Without even asking the size of the kitchen, he told us we wouldn't get a Magnet kitchen for that price (despite the ... more

    Advantages Advantages None

Disadvantages Disadvantages Poor value, pushy salesman, secretive about pricing of applicances, poor aftersales care, poor quality, faulty goods, excessive delivery delay, badly fitted

Our nightmare began when we decided to buy a Magnet kitchen (from Villiers Road Kingston branch) basically because we were enticed by a special offer and because the showroom was closest to us. The showroom was very well laid out and the units looked good, enabling us to fully envisage the kitchen we wanted. The salesman was ultra attentive, but to the point of being "over-the-top" and making me feel uncomfortable. However we went ahead as my mother liked the kitchen units and we needed to fit one quickly, because we had torn out the other health hazard in the house we were renovating! The ... more
