My quest for a tasty meal that won’t upset my gallbladder continues. While doing my weekly shop in Safeway I noticed in the freezer compartment a meal I had never noticed before. It was from the Main Street Bistro range made by Heinz and was on special offer £1.69 instead of £2.99 there were several different meals but I chose to try the Chargrilled Chicken and vegetables.

It is suitable for both microwave and conventional oven cooking. It takes 35-40 minutes at 190(375) in an ordinary oven just prick the lid and place on a baking sheet. For microwave cooking the instructions vary depending on the wattage. Mine is an old dinosaur and it took 7 minutes on full power then I removed the lid and stirred it and replaced it and cooked it for another 5 minutes 30 seconds now it was ready to serve.

The smell was wonderful and my mouth was watering in anticipation. I lifted the rice, which had finely chopped spring onion through it and thought it looked a bit stodgy. I arranged it on the plate and lifted the pieces of chargrilled chicken next. Very impressed there were three pieces and the chargrilling was evident. Next the sauce it was a lovely colour and baby sweet corn, red and green peppers and carrots were very tempting looking.

As women are allowed 70g and men 90g of fat daily this was not to high an amount and I certainly suffered no ill effects after it.
Ingredients ¤~¤~¤~¤~¤~¤~¤~¤~¤~¤ Cooked rice(38%),Water ,Chargrilled Chicken(17%), Spring onions, Red peppers, Soy sauce, Carrots, Baby Sweet corn, Green Peppers, Concentrated Tomato Puree, Onions, Cider Vinegar, Sugar, Maize Starch, Garlic Puree Curry Powder, Ginger puree and spices.
It is totally free from any artificial colours or flavours.
The all important taste test. ¤~¤~¤~¤~¤~¤~¤~¤~¤~¤ First I have to say I was very impressed by the size of the portion and the colour lived up to the picture on the box. As for taste it was wonderful. The subtle blend of spices with a tint of ginger and garlic certainly gave it an oriental flavour. My first impressions of the rice were wrong when the sauce was added the rice separated beautifully. The baby sweet corn had not gone as soggy and kept its lovely crunchy texture.
Overall Opinion ~¤~¤~¤~¤~¤~¤~¤~¤ This is an excellent meal from Heinz and I would certainly recommend it as a great standby to have in the freezer. I am certainly going to stock up while this special offer is on. For once the picture you see on the box IS what you get on the plate. It is of course covered by Heinz full money back guarantee if not completely satisfied.
Advantages: lovely and different Disadvantages: not big enough portion
...something.
All of the Main Street Bistro range was on offer from 2.79GBP down to 1.69 GBP.
After eyeing up most of the range I dubiously settled on the Chargrilled chicken with some hesitation. I’m not normally too keen on trying something new when I’m starving because if I don’t like it I have to go through all the hassle of finding something else to eat.
Also some of you may know how I feel about cooked peppers, and this dish ... ...(not too bad for a main meal).
4.9g fat of which 1.0g are saturates (bit of a let down)
*****OTHER WAYS OF COOKING *****
You can cook this in a conventional oven, but it takes 35 – 40 mins. I think the microwave version took long enough without waiting even longer for it.
****INGREDIENTS****
I refuse to give a whole list, but: -
Cooked rice being the main one (at least it’s not water, but shame it’s not chicken)
