Maisy goes to bed is a children's picture book from the series of Maisy books by Lucy Cousins, a few of which I have listed below:

• Maisy goes swimming
• Maisy takes a bath
• Maisy at the farm
• Maisy's colours
• Maisy's ABC
• Maisy Dresses Up

All of these books are great for pre-school children as they contain elements that are familiar to very young children and are a great educational tool.

~ Who is Maisy? ~

Maisy is a white mouse with a pink nose, ears, tail and paws. Unlike other mice she wears clothes so be sure to help the children realise that 'real' mice don't actually wear clothes!

Maisy does a lot of things that are relevant to young children, getting dressed, learning about colours, going in the bath etc which means that they can relate to Maisy and really enjoy the series of books.

~ Maisy goes to bed ~Not surprisingly, this book is about Maisy getting ready for bed and what she needs to do before going to bed:

• have a drink
• go to the loo
• wash her hands
• brush her teeth
• put her pyjamas on
• read a book
• finally go to sleep!

It's a great book for reading at bed time as you can use the stance of Maisy's gone to sleep, so now it's your turn and hope that this will work!It's a lift the flap and pull the tab book which I love for young children as it really involves them through interaction.

~ Illustrations ~

These are very bright, simple and bold. The outline of Maisy and each item is drawn in thick black pen and the rest is coloured in.Children love bright, primary colours but what makes it for them are the excellent lift the flap and pull the tab opportunities which I shall list below:

• Open the fridge then lift Maisy's arm to put the glass to her mouth.
• Lift the toilet seat, pull the flusher and the toilet roll for Maisy.
• See the water come out of the taps by pulling the tabs and pull the plug down.
• Open the bathroom cupboard doors and pull the tab to move the toothrush to help Maisy brush her teeth.
• Open the wardrobe doors
• Open the pages of Maisy's book
• Pull the duvet to cover Maisy.

Apologies to anyone for whom that was too much information but I felt that it was important to anyone thinking of buying this book to see how many things your child can get involved with.~ Educational Value ~

• Encourages interaction and fine motor skills with the flaps and tabs.
• It's great for sequencing events.
• It encourages children to discuss what they do before bed time and the importance of brushing your teeth, washing your hands etc.
• A great aid in learning colours.
