Might be cheap...might not be!

Advantages: Some great offers, large selection of items
Disadvantages: All prices exclude VAT; can sound cheaper than it actually is

I first began visiting Makro just over 3 years ago, when I started a new job. All employees were able to apply for a Makro card. I wasn't over eager on getting a card - I had never been to Makro although as it was quite close to where I lived, passed it many times a week. However, a card was ordered for me anyway. I didn't use the card for a few months until a 'Makro Mail' appeared on my desk at work.

...is to get into a Makro store if you don't have a card, your card has expired or if you are shopping at a different store to your regular one! WHAT IS MAKRO --------------- For those who aren't familiar with the everyday house of wholesale, it is a trade only wholesale warehouse where card holders (and only card holders) can obtain goods at less than retail prices. GETTING INTO THE STORE ----------------------- The staff at the door seem in ...
...everyone knows someone with a Makro card! Speaking of exclusivity gone mad, at our local store, they even check your card on the way out, whether you bought anything or not..... would someone tell me just what they would do (if by some fluke of nature you managed to get in through the armed guards with the attitude problem, didn't buy anything and went out) if you didn't have a card? Arrest you and put you in solitary? I don't think so..... so what ...

Let Me In Now!

...We have had the Liverpool Makro store since before I was born, and my grandad used to take me as a small child as he loved going to supermarkets and places like that, I guess that’s where I get it from! Makro, a few years ago was refitted adding a whole new front to the store, and I gather that all stores now look Identical. I go to Makro to buy things that we use a lot of at home like toilet rolls and washing powder-that sort of thing. ~How do ...

Bargains but you have to queue for them

Advantages: stocks lots
Disadvantages: staff and waiting time

Makro is a wholesale outlet and they have many stores situated throughout the country, those that come to mind are Acton, Reading, Poole, Croydon etc. How does it work? You have to be in business to get a free makro card that gives you entry to shop in any of their stores. The card can be applied for with company or business letterheads, you do not have to be vat registered or anything like that. I have been told that many card holders have obtained ...

Tesco rhymes with Al-Fresco (lilly allen)

Advantages: everything under one roof largely available by car 24hrs
Disadvantages: can be pricey, and some stores out of stock.

. Tesco shopping is generally good experience, shops are presented well and many 'little' items to help the customer, such as the various types of trolley available. Kids particularly love the car trolley where the child sits in the car and the trolley is above the car. Also you find that Tesco when opening stores, is ruthless in finding consumer information in the area. If it is more ethnic, it will stock many ethnic products at cheap prices. But in general terms, Asda still works out cheaper for all your staple foods, and clothing. But range seems to more varied in Tesco 24 hrs than in Asda. Happy Shopping - Makro 74 ...

Gotta Go To Costco

Advantages: Prices, Variety of products, bulk buys
Disadvantages: Few locations, first paying out for a membership fee

food (ie. meat, veg.) products are VAT free. The shop originated from the States and carries many US brands, as well as the regular brands seen in supermarkets. Many of the items are sold in bulk form within a huge warehouse style shop (similar to Makro). Products available include furniture, tools, clothes, sporting goods, electrical goods, tools, cigarettes, alcohol, toiletries, plants, Christmas decorations, tires, etc. Unfortunately Costco is a members only type of cash and carry. They provide items with business owners in mind, however I find that the shop caters to individual needs as well. If you are a business owner you will be able to get membership for £24.00. Individual membership is also available at a cost of just under £30.00. Eligibility is for those employed or retired from: >Banking/Finance >Civil Servant ...

It As-da be good.......

Advantages: Massive stores, cheap prices, good service
Disadvantages: A big drive for me :(

Right, for those fellow Ciao-ers who are sick of my groaning on about poor customer service, for once, I have something nice to say and I'm saying it LOUDLY!!!! WHERE DO I NORMALLY SHOP? Fellow members will doubtless have read my complaints about Tesco & Makro - in fact, I got so fed up with the chattering checkout-ees, attitude and generally poor service I have switched allegiances and voted with my feet. I now refuse to shop anywhere where I do not get decent service, and I reckon if we all did the same, we'd get back to the good old days when staff actually realised that 'retail' meant 'serving customers' - today, I think in general, retail staff see their roles as stacking shelves, pressing till buttons etc. without so much as a raise of the head -except to watch the clock. In fact, a friend of mine who managed a store had to ...
