Advantages: Protects the skin in many ways, moisturises, smells nice, great price Disadvantages: You might not like the smell of coconuts?

In my experience, the higher the factor, the thicker the lotion tends to be and the factor 8 that I have is a very thin cream which does take a bit of rubbing to remove the whiteness.

---- SUN RAYS / EFFECTS -----
☼ Ultraviolet-A rays are 99% of the rays that reach the earths surface (because of the ozone layer protecting us). These rays cause wrinkles and are known as 'dark-lights' because they have longer wavelengths and can penetrate through windows as well as deeper into the skin than UVB rays.
☼ UVB rays are those linked to skin cancers e.g. melanoma. Medical experiments have proven these rays to alter the DNA within a person's body forming mutations and cancer growth.
☼ UVC rays are the most dangerous but are normally filtered by the Ozone layer - it is becoming increasingly worrying though with the thinning of the ozone as these rays could start penetrating through.
UVA/UVB rays damage the skin and cause it to age quicker so protection from them help keep you looking younger and protect against fatal conditions such as skin cancer. To protect itself, the skin tans by releasing melanin - some people turn red, while others turn brown. Apparently an SPF protects only against UVB rays. Of course for the best protection, it is best to keep out of the sun during its 'peak' times and avoid long periods outside.
---- SPF PROTECTION ----
The back of the bottle shows that this lotion has 3 stars for UVA protection showing it is 'superior' to those that have a lower number of stars. This lotion is also waterproof so you can still go for dips in the pool (4 x 20 minute swims) and you will still have protection. SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor and these range from anything from around 2 - 60 in most sunscreen ranges but I think Malibu is only available in factors 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 and the less the factor the less protection you have. In my experience, the higher the factor, the thicker the lotion tends to be and the factor 8 that I have is a very thin cream which does take a bit of rubbing to remove the whiteness.
The number of the sun lotion refers to how much protection you have against the sun after applying it. I have factor 8 which means I would have 8 times as much protection against the sun than I would if I wasn't wearing any protection. You can normally spend around 15 minutes in the sun before it does have any effect on you but with protection, you can stay in the sun X times as long. E.g. factor 8 means I could stay in the sun and reapply the lotion every 8 x 15 minutes = 2 hours.
The skin normally takes around 2 weeks to adjust to its climate so if you are planning on visiting a very hot country, take a high SPF factor protection with you and after 2 weeks, this can be reduced in number. E.g. start with factor 30 then reduce it to factor 25 or 15 after a few weeks. A factor of at least 15 is advised for those in the UK.
---- SMELL ----
I probably could write a whole review on the smell alone but I try to keep it short! The first thing that comes to mind is coconut. It has quite a creamy smell to it and I actually prefer it to some perfumes. The lotion is idea to wear on its own and no doubt people will like them smell of you if you walk past them wearing this. I normally wouldn't wear perfume over the top of this as the aromas could mix and make a displeasing combination.
---- WHEN TO APPLY / HOW TO APPLY ----
The best times to apply this lotion is 30 minutes before going into the sun and even then, reapply it during being out in the sun, once you have been in the water for a while or if it gets rubbed off from contact with clothes or towels.
To apply it is very easy. I normally shake the bottle first then just add a squirt into your hand and rub into the skin. Because this is a cream, it is easily absorbed by the skin and a little goes a long way! Within 30 seconds, the lotion should be fully absorbed and although has no colouring to it, still leaves skin looking very healthy and smelling gorgeous! The lotion is white and when you begin to rub it into the skin, it still turns white but once it is rubbed into the skin, it cannot be seen.
---- BRAND / UK SUN----
The name of the product gives the image that this is used in those Californian areas where the sun always shines! (Unlike the UK!). Some people still do not realise that even here in the UK it is very important to still wear lotion in this country because the sun can still do damage even on cloudy days. Children who have suffered from sunburn at a young age are more likely to develop skin cancer in later life and babies should be wearing around factor 50 even if they are in the shade.
---- ADDITIONAL BENEFITS ----
One of the added bonuses of this lotion is the Vitamin E and Pro-Vitamin B5 it contains. These are ideal for moisturising the skin so it doesn't become dry and burn even easier. I would absolutely love to wear this as a moisturiser forgetting it is a sunscreen because it really does work - the prices are also amazing compared to other rival lotions.
---- VOLUME / PACKAGING ----
The Malibu Range generally comes in 200ml bright orange bottles with the word WATERPROOF highlighted in blue at the bottom. I know some children are not keen on using lotion because it seems so 'uncool' that the Malibu range has also developed a dry oil spray and coloured spray which makes the whole experience more pleasing.
---- AVAILABILITY / PRICE ----
While Malibu is a very popular brand, it seems to have been slowly disappearing within recent years. I bought my lotion from Superdrug so it might still be available there. Here are some examples of other Malibu products available (c/o www.auravita.com)
MALIBU Protective Sun Lotion SPF 8 - £3.99 200ml (the one I have)
MALIBU Protective Sun Lotion SPF 6 - £3.49 MALIBU High Protection Spray for Kids SPF 30 - £6.99 MALIBU High Protection Mousse SPF 20 - £5.49 MALIBU High Protection Lotion Spray SPF 15 - £5.49 MALIBU Coloured Spray for Kids SPF 30 - Pink - £6.99 MALIBU After Sun Lotion - £3.29
(Volumes vary between 150ml - 400ml)
---- SOLTAN Vs MALIBU ----
There are huge differences between Malibu and the Boots Soltan range - 200ml of Factor 8 Soltan lotion will cost £7.49 while Malibu is half that price! These shows how excellent the value is even though you are not saving on the protection you are getting from the sun. Soltan also doesn't have that much of a smell to it while you have the added coconut fragrance to Malibu, the benefits of the Vitamin E and Pro-vitamin B5 while both are waterproof.
----- CONCLUSION -----
I can only highly recommend Malibu - their ranges of lotions and oils are suitable for kids and adults alike while giving protection against the sun, is also dermatologically tested, moisturises the skin, the bottle gives handy tips and directions so you know what you should be doing. The products have also not been tested on animals! Overall, I have found this lotion to be highly effective and does, probably beyond its means, protect the skin.
Advantages: Great Sun protection, inexpensive Disadvantages: sometimes finding it..
...Thats where I discovered Malibu sun lotion. The first thing that struck me was that the pack sizes went up to 400ml. Ever since travelling around Australia I have been vigilant with slathering on the stuff. So the larger size the bottle, the better. So i bought three anyway. As if I don't use it at home then I can use it for holiday.
The Packaging..
Malibu is instantly recognisableby its bland bottle. Its white with an orange sun on the front and ... ...front what factor you are buying and the brand name Malibu. But then I'm not buying it for the bottle, as long as it protects my skin..then I dont give a flying...chop.
The brand is a cheaper brand. Its not quite Supermarkets own brand, but then its nowhere near say Nivea Sun or any of the Premium brands that are £12 a bottle. Its more of an essential item as opossed to a luxury anti ageing sun cream.
The lid is a flip cap.Its easy enough to flick ...

Advantages: Can be used for the scalp, waterproof Disadvantages: I'm finding it hard to get hold of!
...that's when I came across Malibu Dry Oil Spray. Now I don't like the thought of putting anything called 'dry oil' onto my skin, especially to protect myself against sun burn. I didn't really have much choice though, as I needed something that was suitable for my scalp, which this is. I don't always like to wear a hat when I'm out in the sunshine, and this was the only product I could find that was suitable for spraying onto my hair. So I bought it.
... ...seem to find it anywhere! Malibu is a fairly well known brand of suncream I know that, I've seen other products of theirs around before. I had a quick look on the Boots website (www.boots.com) and this product wasn't available on there, and I wasn't able to find any information from the Superdrug website (www.superdrug.com). When I bought this I got it from Tesco. My internet search for this product isn't proving very fruitful, but I shall definitely ...

...with a healthy colour.
Malibu dry oil spray cost £4.49 from my local chemist and is very cheaply priced in my opinion, especailly as it has done an excellant job of keeping us safer in the sun.
Sun cream for children is not the only protection that should be observed during the summer months, floppy brimmed hats, or hats that protect the neck should be worn, loose clothing also should be worn, as well as a good high sun protection factor cream/lotion ...

Advantages: stops you burning your skin Disadvantages: i hate the coconut/hairspray smell
...local woolworths where they had malibu dry oil spray as a new product. I'd never tried a sunscreen spray before so i thought the time was now.
The size of the bottle was 200ml and it cost me £5.99. It was a high protection 15, i thought mmm bargin from some of the other sprays i'd seen.
What mainly attracted me to buy it was that its for use all over the body including the scalp and it was also waterproof.
So off i went home go the bikini on and ... ...smell of coconut/the smell that id just sprayed hairspray, it does wear down to just a scent of coconut though.
So all in all i recommend Malibu dry oil spray, i've used it again this year and i think i'll be using it for a long time to come. ...

Advantages: Good For Sesitive Skin Disadvantages: None that I can see
...I don't get this with Malibu Dry Oil Spray, I think this is because it is so light and none greasy and therefore doesn't block the pores also it still allows you to sweat - nasty I know but normal waterproof lotions seem to trap perspiration in - hence the rash.
It's easy to apply, and if you are on your own you can still protect those hard to reach places. I also use it on my scalp - having fine hair it offers good protection to the head!
It smells ... ...for anyone!!!
Its available in various factors from low to high i.e a very low 2 to 20 and the cheapest I found it was poundland for yes only £1.00, in Asda expect to pay £1.99.
Personally I don't think you can go wrong with this product, reasonably priced UVA and UVB protection, clean and none greasy, give it a go!
You should always apply sun screens 30 minutes before exposure to allow the beneficial properties of the product to be absorbed by ...

Advantages: Cheapish, cools and soothes skin Disadvantages: Not moisturising, only as cheap as Holland & Barrett's pure Aloe
Since buying a little Aloe Vera plant of my own I've been quite curious as to what it can do for my body, since it's well known as being a great natural healer. Seeing the popular sun care range Malibu had a reasonably priced bottle in my local Woolworth's and knowing it was supposed to be good for sunburn, with summer approaching I thought I'd give it a go.
MALIBU MOISTURISING AFTER SUN GEL
You won't miss this in the shop. It'll be in the sun care section and most likely be the only bright green 200ml pump bottle there. The bottle itself isn't green, the gel is! It looks slightly freaky but decidedly cool (in the warm/cold way not in the fashion sense). I was glad to see that it was in a pump bottle because it's quite a hassle applying things like gel or cream from a screw top bottle whilst trying not to waste the product ...

Well, my feedback would have been useful had they bothered to read it. Instead, three weeks later they sent back a letter which I can only assume is standard and of a LOW standard at that.
Dear Malibu Jenny [not my real name, but then they spelt that wrong anyway],
Thank you for contacting us regarding The Body Shop Mango Body Scrub.
We were sorry to hear that you were unhappy with this product. At The Body Shop we want all of our customers to be delighted with our products and we are disappointed when this is not the case.

Advantages: Great hold. Disadvantages: Not for all hair types as it states. Can be sticky on hands.

The Product =
The pot describes it as "A superior styling formulation. Mould it, scrunch it, comb it, or simply brush through and leave it. Humidity and temperature resistant. Shampoos out easily."
It is a creamy colour and has a gloopy consistency. It can feel rather sticky on your fingers but it shouldn't in your hair unless you use too much. I only use a little bit but my brother tends to cake it on to get the desired effect (big messy spikes that are going to stay there all day).
The smell is described as caramel but it reminds me a bit of the alcoholic drink, Malibu, when it's inside the bottle. (I'm sure you all go around sniffing alcohol bottles. lol)
You will need to wash your hands after using the Hair Shaper because your fingers always feel sticky and have excess product on them.
