Well folks..its that time of year again. The barbeques are being fired up, the hose pipes are being banned in their thousands and very puny men feel it necessary to take off their shirts. Unless you are very lucky and have gorgeous dark skin. Then you wont be worrying about baring your oh so pasty limbs and then smelling like a braised chop after ten minutes in the Sun.

Well I am one of those braised chop folk! My skin is so pale that if you looked quickly you'd think you'd have seen a spectre of some sort. So as the temperature soars to around 20c, well struggles, I find myself wanting to bare my beautiful Winter coloured flesh. As I am going abroad in The Summer I chose to buy a job lot of Sun Cream in January. Well Im a tight wad, and its cheaper to buy in the Winter.

Thats where I discovered Malibu sun lotion. The first thing that struck me was that the pack sizes went up to 400ml. Ever since travelling around Australia I have been vigilant with slathering on the stuff. So the larger size the bottle, the better. So i bought three anyway. As if I don't use it at home then I can use it for holiday.

The Packaging..

Malibu is instantly recognisableby its bland bottle. Its white with an orange sun on the front and an orange lid.It tells you in large letters on the front what factor you are buying and the brand name Malibu. But then I'm not buying it for the bottle, as long as it protects my skin..then I dont give a flying...chop.

The brand is a cheaper brand. Its not quite Supermarkets own brand, but then its nowhere near say Nivea Sun or any of the Premium brands that are £12 a bottle. Its more of an essential item as opossed to a luxury anti ageing sun cream.

The lid is a flip cap.Its easy enough to flick undone with you finger, and seals up again well.

The Slathering test..

Okay so on reading the back you have to apply it to your skin twenty minutes before going out into the Sun. So a little pre planning is advised. This lotion can be used on children, but not on babies under six months.Well I have chosen factor twenty, as I burn in around ten minutes.

So what you do to know how long protection you have is to multiply your burn time by the factor.
So I burn in 10 minutes, and am using factor 20.
Thats 10x 20.So I can stay out in the Sun for 200minutes.Any longer than that, then I won't be protected no matter how much more lotion I put on,

On clacking open the cap I have a little wiff. Oh God..it smells ever so slighty coconuty. Its not overpowering though, as there is a major whiff of a light baby lotion as well. On pouring it out onto my hand, its the consistency of a lotion. But it isnt too runny or too thick, it just sits in your palm nicely.

Now how much you use is up to personal preference.I like to use it like theres no tomorrow.Generally one palm full will do the whole of my arm. Then I take my time to rub it in. This lotion being white in colour may look at though its hard to rub in. But to my surprise it goes in beautifully leaving no streaks.

It gives my skin a lovely sheen without being tacky to the touch. It does sink in straight away.

The bottle also states that it is waterproof, giving protection after four twenty minute swims. When I swim though I do usually put on another layer afterwards, just to be sure.

General suncare..

The higher the Factor you use the better protection you have.

The Sun is at its hottest 11am to 3pm.

Keep your Kids covered up!

Just because its cloudy, doesnt mean that the Sun wont be hiding waiting to burn you.

There are these and other tips on the back of the bottle. To me that actually is very responsible.

Ingredients...

To keep your skin soft and supple this lotion contains Vitamin E and also Pro Vitamin B5 whih is known for its skin and hair softening properties. There are also a bucket full of chemicals, but to be fair if they are protecting my skin then they need to be there.
The lotion has not been tested on Animals, and has been dermatogically tested. As with anything like this, dont eat it or scrub it in your eyes. And it may well stain your clothes.

It protects my skin against UVA and UVB rays. Thats burning rays and the onesthat cause you to look like a leather handbag.

Are you cooking Kitty?

I am not! I don't have any redness after sitting out in the garden for nigh on four hours. Even though Mr Fluff said I looked like a red Lobster dead on the grass.
My skin does'nt feel dry at all.In fact quite the opposite. Its soft and shiny. I do feel a bit sticky though now. So I would recommend a shower in the evening. But I have found that I need to with any suncream.

My skin has turned to a very light brown colour. Like chicken that is coming up to being done. I wondered why the cat has been looking at me and salivating.

Where can I get this wonder Cream!!

I bought mine from one of those cheapo shops. The ones that sell shampoos that went out of production years ago. I paid £3.99 for a 400ml bottle. That wil last me and Mr F a good while in this country, but will probably be used in a week with daily use on holiday.
I have seen it also for sale in Wilkinsons and Superdrug.

What other products are there?

The lotion comes in factors 8,15,20 and 35. But for some reason the higher the factor the smaller the bottle. The factor 35 comes in 250ml bottles and is £4.99. Well thats what Superdrug were selling it for.

They also make a dry oil spray that comes in a 250ml spray bottle. However the highest factor is 20. Now I have used this, and its like spraying neat Vodka onto your skin. I was not a fan. This retails at £2.99 a bottle. But we found that we used it very quickly between the two of us.

Kittys final thought...

This is a great suncream. Its cheap, they do it in huge sizes, and it stops you from burning. I will be getting some more for my holiday. You must try your pound shop first for Malibu, as it will be cheaper. And they usually have it stacked up to the ceiling.
And the money that I have saved on my sun cream I can spend on my beer..so its all good..and it part of my Summer of Love.
