As a child I loved Mallory Towers, though as an adult Blyton's world is a bit strange to say the least. I attempted to read one of the Mallory Towers books when I was about 13 and found them ridiculous. However, for a child, it doesn't really matter. It doesn't result in taking Blyton's assumptions about class into later life!
The endless rounds of hair brushing, picnics and lots of vigourous exercise seem like great fun. For a pre-pubescent girl, sharing a room with your mates seems like a brilliant idea. Only when you reach adolsence do you realise what a truly terrible idea this would be.
In any case, its obvious this is a different world - what is a school certificate??
Blyton follows the same set of girls throughout the school into maturity which is a fascinating adventure for the reader. In short, if you are below the age of 10, you will like this. If not, don't even try it.
