Review of "Man Thing (DVD)"
Thank you for all the love towards my "Terror of the Tongs" DVD review.
The new sheriff of Bywater discovers that over twenty people have mysteriously
disappeared in recent months. Fred Schist, the crooked local big daddy and head
of the nearby oil refinery, blames a cayman who lives in the bayou, but as
vegetation filled bodies begin to appear, the sheriff begins to believe that an
old Indian legend about a supernatural 'dark warrior' may be true.
started appearing in a magazine called Giant-Sized Man-Thing) comes to DVD and
surprisingly it's not bad at all. Not great either but certainly entertaining in
a shlochky horror fashion. It's more faithful to the comic than either Swamp
Thing movie was to their source material. It helps that there's no real attempt
at an origin story, rather this is straight-forward monster movie. True it
reheats every cliché about weirdo, chicken-fried Deep South characters and the
film spends far too much time in their company when we'd rather be watching the muck monster. But when it does appear, the Man-Thing is a well-realised impressive sight. An enjoyable ninety minutes of pulp horror.
As is usual with a movie made by the SyFy Channel, there are no famous names in the cast and this is a bare-bones DVD with no extras. Not worth full price but if you are a comics fan and you see it heavily reduced it would be worth checking out.

Manufacturer's product descriptionWhen two men assigned to scout out a swamp for oil drilling simply vanish, local authorities set out on a mission to discover what caused their disappearance. But what they ultimately discover is more horrific than they could ever imagine, a swamp creature that feeds off of human fear.
